The Huai'an dialect belongs to the Hongchao Slice of Jianghuai official dialect.Like other dialects in the Hongchao Slice, the Huai'an dialect still has entering tone.In recent years, the strong promotion of Mandarin Chinese has made agreat impact on the development of the Huai'an dialect, which has obviously increased the speed of development of the entering tone in Huai'an dialect. The microscopic analysis of the present situation of Huai'an dialect's entering tone is helpful to grasp the rules and trends of the evolution of the entering tone in Huai'an dialect.Based on the methods of modern dialectology and sociolinguistics, the paper takes the entering tone and the entering final of Huai'an dialect as the objects of study, through a series of specific survey data, describe and analyse the Huai'an dialect enrering tone evolution present situation, and based on which, summarize the Huai'an dialect entering tone evolution characteristics, laws and reasons. The paper mainly includes four parts:The first chapter mainly describes the present pronunciation of the entering tone in Huai'an dialect. The entering tone characters of mid-ancient QuanQing,CiQing,QuanZhuo, and CiZhuo initial consonant have different conditions in retaining the entering tone and the vanishing of tail vowel in Huai'an old school dialect. The tone assignment of vanishing of tail vowel characters is different from that of Beijing dialect and has its own rules of assignment. The second chapter mainly describes the present pronunciation of the entering final in Huai'an dialect. There are 11 entering finals in Huai'an old school dialect, which distributed in nine rhyme groups. The entering tone rhyme of mid-ancient XianShe,ShanShe,ShenShe,ZhenShe,ZengShe,GengShe have been merged. The difference of the tongue position of the main vowel is not obvious. The tail vowel vanishing rhyme assignment is characterized by loss of throat stoppage end, change of main vowel and increase of rhyme end.The third chapter is mainly about the comparison between the old and new school Huai'an dialect in the entering tone. The entering tone, entering rhyme and variant pronunciations between the old and new schools of Huai'an dialect are compared. The tail vowel vanishing trend of the old and the new school is roughly the same, the tone assignment of the old school tail vowel vanishing characters has its own rules, while the new school assignment is same as the Beijing dialect. The GengShe and TongShe characters in old and the new school dialect are easy to have tail vowel vanishing, while the ShenShe characters are more stable. After vanishing, the vowels are mostly classified as open breath and full-toothed breath. The differences in variant pronunciations are mainly divided into five situations:old school dialect has entering tone and new school dialect has both entering tone and tail vowel vanishing, old school dialect has entering tone and new school dialect has tail vowel vanishing, old and new school dialects have entering tone or tail vowel vanishing but the pronunciation is different, old school dialect has tail vowel vanishing and new school dialect has entering tone, old and new school dialects have both entering tone and tail vowel vanishing but the pronunciation is different. The fourth chapter summarizes the evolution rules and reasons of the entering tone in Huai'an dialect. The rule of evolution is that the entering tone of Huai'an dialect takes the form of lexical diffusion. On the whole being closer to Mandarin Chinese, the new school evolved faster than the old one,the vanishing of tail vowel is its ultimate evolution trend. The main reasons for the evolution are as follows:the internal adjustment of dialect system, language contact, and some social factors such as age, gender, occupation, educational level, and so on.
