Research On The Variation Of Yuci Dialect’s Entering Tone

Yuci dialect belongs to Bingzhou sub-dialect of Jin dialectregion, which has its own characteristics on pronunciation,vocabulary and grammar. It is the habits of sacrificing the longcorner that leads to Yuci dialect developing slowly, and also makesthe features of the dialect it reflects have more historical value.The research object of this dissertation is based on theentering tone of Yuci dialect not because of the completeness itretains, which can reflect the language state of the earlier period,but because of the special period it lives now. With the rapiddevelopment of economy and culture, the regional contacts becomecloser increasingly. The entering tone of Yuci dialect will be boundto change dramatically in short term by the dual role of mandarinand Taiyuan dialect whose features of entering tone was quiteblurring as a mighty language. This dissertation tries to dig out thefactors which can affect the entering tone as comprehensively aspossible and gets a further prediction of the entering tone’sprogress by showing its status quo and comparing thepronunciation features between the old and the new. Based on thesorting and analysis of a large corpus got through investigation, wearrive at the conclusions:Firstly, the vanishing of tail vowel in entering tone and Checkedization are two kinds of evolution direction for Yuci dialect,who will coexist for a long time. But, the vanishing is always in amighty position and can lead the direction of developmentnecessarily.Secondly, the entering tone has evolved into Yinru and Yangruin Yuci dialect. The trend is that Yangru are getting closer to Yinru.When the voice system is simplified enough, the two parts willeventually roll into one.The third point, what makes the entering tone of Yuci dialectexist for such a long time are the closed geographical environment,the plosive tail vowel is stable and obvious and the high productionof the counter-ideographic syllables with entering tone.The forth point, the main reasons why checkedization appearsare the inheritance of archaic long-entering tone words, thecharacteristics of uninterrupted words and combi-voice words, thecharacteristics of light-heavy voice syllables and the highproduction of the counter-ideographic syllables with entering tone.We must realize that only if there are dialects that had entering tone,can they exist Checkedization.The final point, The internal factors caused the vanishing of tailvowel in entering tone are pronunciation features of the a group,labor-saving principle of language and simplified trend of voicesystem. The external one is the effect of Mandarin. Althoughinternal causes determine the evolution of things, the effect ofMandarin which can change Yuci’s entering tone dramatically in ashort time should not be underestimated.The investigation, records and analysis of Yuci dialect’s status quo not only fill the lack of voice studies in Yuci, show the historicalstatus of dialect, provide corpus on Jin dialect, can also reveal thegreat influence of Mandarin on Yuci dialect and arouse theawareness of dialect protection.
