The old Tibetan rock inscription plays vital roles in cultural, linguistic, religious, artistic and archeological areas. The thesis discusses some newly found Tibetan rock inscription and art in the remote nomadic areas of Kham, the present Gser-shul in Dkar mdzes Prefecture,Sichuan Province and Yushu Prefecture in Qinghai Province. The thesis is based on a thorough observation and photographical documentation of the rock inscription, undertaken in the course of three visits to the above mentioned research sites in 2017 and 2018.Instead of using grand theories, the research applies cross-sector approaches including anthropological, archeological and textual approaches. My interest in this study is mainly about investigating how the relation between central Tibet and the border Tibetan regions is manifested through the inscription. In order to achieve this goal,I made efforts to collect and systematically edited the first hand data.In the course of analysis,a number of ancient Tibetan written words connected to the Tibetan Btsan-po period were revealed. The paper is divided into nine chapters.Chapter one is an introduction to the communities of the research target and a brief history of the rock inscriptions in the regions.Chapter two describes the styles and materials of rock inscription, and the process of creating rock inscription and art in the region.Chapter three presents some related historical materials on the Chinese Wencheng Prince and Buddhist abbot Yeshes dbyangs. The next six chapters are respectively about the six areas of the inscriptions, including the rock inscriptions of'Jo-mda' in Chab-mdo,'Dam-pa in Yushu,Shupa Sacred Mountain,'Bis-khog,Leb-khog and Brag lha mo.
