Traditional concept of time usually regards that time is a pure mediumjust like space, which confused time and space.Henri Bergson, one of the most famous philosophers in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, created the unique theory of Duration which firstly raises the question of time to the main question of philosophy by criticizing the traditional concept of time and space.Duration, throughout the whole philosophy system of Beigson,is the eore of his philosophy.Firstly,Bergson thinks Duration is the real time distinguished from spatialized time.Duration's main characteristics embodied in:it is absolute and inseparable;it is appeared in succession and cannot be measured;it is constantly innovated and unpredictable;it is a process of constant change,to be exact,it is change itself.Secondly,Bergson thinks Duration is a blind, irrational, and perpetual moving yet restless life impulse. In addition,he thinks Duration is the driving force of the all things' change and movement,as well as a creative evolution. Finally,Bergson points out that the main purpose of discussing the concept of Duration is to elicit freedom.Through Bergson's criticism of determinism and non-determinism,he points out that freedom is actually a kind of natural action,a kind of mature behavior of the deep self through its own continuous creation and development, and the unity of self and Duration. It can be said that Bergson is an epoch-making figure in the history of the concept of time. When philosophers fell into the prison of spatialized time,he separated the extended time from the spatialized time with the startling voice, which defined time and space in philosophy for die first time, broke die situation since Aristotle that time and space were confused, and eliminated the misunderstanding of life and freedom in spatialized time.Philosophers after him have found it hard to escape his influence when it comes to space and time.At the same tune, for the modem society, the rapid development of capitalism and the increasingly serious phenomenon of materialization have led people's attempt to use dead and mechanical clock time to define life.At this time, the analysis of Bergson's concept of time and space is of great value and profound enlightenment to children's education and personal life in todays society, and also serves as a warning to rampant materialization.
