Fu Lei's Artistic Pursuit And The Study Of The Translation Of "The Biography Of Famous People"

In China,Fu Lei's name is inevitable in the translation and diffusion of the works of Romain Rolland,for which Fu Lei made remarkable contributions.For a long time,the research on Romain Rolland's works translated by Fu Lei focuses mainly on Jean-Christophe in the translation circles of our country,while research on Life of Illustrious Men is rare.But in fact,the translation of one of these three biographies,Life of Beethoven,is the beginning of Fu Lei's translation of Romain Rolland,which is also a transition from literary criticism to literary translation.Life of the Illustrious Men brings positive impacts on Fu Lei,which he wanted to transmit to the young Chinese.As he wishes,Life of Illustrious Men affects the Chinese from generation to generation since its publication.As a result,this paper chose Life of Illustrious Men as the object of study,with the intention of analyzing the influences of Fu Lei's artistic knowledge on his translation,and the artistic effect of Life of Illustrious Men translated by Fu Lei.To give a more concrete analysis,this paper also uses the examples coming from the version of Zhang Guanyao and Ai Min,and that of Chen Xiaoqing.We compare these three versions by using case study and version comparison to examine how art works in Fu Lei's translation and what artistic effect it has caused.This paper has four chapters:The first chapter is divided into four parts.The three previous parts talks about Fu Lei's art experiences in music,painting and literary creation.The last part presents Fu Lei's general art view on "the humanity" and "the idea of harmony".The second chapter analyzes the influences of Fu Lei's artistic knowledge on his translation,which comprises two parts.The first part explains the influence on the thoughts of translation;on the one hand,the thought of resemblance in spirit comes from Fu Lei's criterions towards Chinese painting;on the other hand,the thought of "fluid expression,rich vocabulary and various nuances" comes from his artistic thought.Before proposing these thoughts of translation,Fu Lei has already begun his practice in literary translation.Of over thirty works translated by Fu Lei,there are seven relate directly or indirectly to art.The second part is influenced by Fu Lei's translation practice,which focuses on the choice of the original text and the accuracy of the translation.The third chapter shows the relationship between Fu Lei and Life of Illustrious Men.This chapter is composed of two parts,the first analyzes the peculiarity of Life of the Illustrious Men of Romain Rolland,which focuses mainly on heroism,then the second explains Fu Lei's motivation of the translation of Life of the Illustrious Men,including Romain Rolland's influence,Beethoven's influence and the influence of the social situation.The fourth chapter concretely analyzes the artistic peculiarities of Fu Lei's translation of Life of Illustrious Men,From the charm of rhythm and the beauty of the image,we are looking for what Fu Lei adopts to obtain an artistic effect in his translation.Moreover,this chapter cites the version of Zhang Guanyao and Ai Min,as well as that of Chen Xiaoqing,then compares them with the Fu Lei version,to present the Fu Lei's unique style.As regards the charm of the rhythm,it is about the parallelism,the pleonasm,the reconstruction,the antithesis,the structure of four characters.For the beauty of the image,Fu Lei uses the addition of the verb,the double negation,the verbal particle,the metaphor,the personification and the integration of the idiom.According to the finding of these four chapters,this paper draws a conclusion:Fu Lei's artistic knowledge plays a vital role in Fu Lei's translation work,it affects his choice of the or:iginal text,his thoughts of translation,and the particular effect of translation.Life of Illustrious Men translated by Fu Lei is the perfect presentation of these impacts.First,the three characters of Life of Illustrious Men:Beethoven,Michelangelo and Tolstoy are all renowned artists around the world,Fu Lei has chosen to translate their biographies shows directly the profound influence of art on him;moreover,the unique style of Fu Lei's translation of Life of Illustrious Men,and its artistic effect,are also a demonstration of these influences.Generally,Fu Lei's Life of Illustrious Men occupies a lasting place in China's translated literature,and infects Chinese readers from generation to generation,it's because of the power of Fu Lei's artistic knowledge.
