The Influence Of English Sitcoms On The English Learning Anxiety Of Junior High School Students

With the development of Textual Psychology,emotional elements have been more and more focused on by domestic scholars since 1950s.Krashen thinks that the emotional factors which affect foreign language learners include learning motivation,confidence and anxiety.Researches on foreign language learning anxiety began in the 1980s,overwhelming majority of the which paid attention to the effects of anxiety on learners' classroom communication and academic performance,few dealt with the effects of anxiety on junior high school students' English learning.Meanwhile,psychological sitcom is a good method for students to release their worries and therefore get relaxed by experiencing different lives.Based on language anxiety researches,with the help of the practices of students' sitcom playing,this paper tests the changes of the students'anxiety.This paper adopted quantitative and qualitative research methods,which conducted the questionnaire survey to 60 junior high school students according to Horwitz's FLCAS(1986).The students from Grade One to Grade Three all have taken part in the optional English lesson of sitcom.In the qualitative research,9 students were interviewed through three groups of semi-structured questions.The study has lasted for six months,during which 6 rehearsals and performances were performed.Questionnaires and interviews were conducted at both the beginning and the end of the study.The data of questionnaires and interviews have been carefully sorted out and analyzed by SPSS software.Most of the students tend to feel anxious about English learning.From the aspect of overall cognition,the students who have been involved in sitcoms have reduced English learning anxiety in some ways.
