Teachers should not only possess the knowledge of the subject, but also master basic teaching skills to teach effectively. After many years of teaching practice, many teachers have developed distinctive teaching patterns, which is suitable for students' development both in body and soul. They can skillfully use various micro-teaching skills in the classroom and gradually develop into expert teachers. However, many novice teachers who have just got the teaching positions, due to the lack of skills training and teaching experience, have lots of differences in teaching compared to expert teachers. What differences are they? However, little has been done in this aspect. As such,it needs further study. For this reason, this study is carried out to compare the differences between the high school English expert teachers and the novice teachers in terms of their micro-teaching skills. The study mainly focuses on the lead-in skills, questioning skills, strengthening skills and ending skills,so as to find out the deficiencies of the novice teachers, and offer suggestions to facilitate their promotion from novice teachers to expert teachers.Three types of instruments are used to collect data from six high school English teachers and 60 high school students, including the micro-skills classroom evaluation scale, questionnaire and interview. The paper firstly analyzes the differences in micro-teaching skills between the high school English novice teachers and expert teachers. Then the study delves into the deficiencies of the novice teachers in teaching and proposes suggestions for them. This study shows that novice teachers and expert teachers have great differences in the use of classroom teaching skills.Expert teachers can use the skills of lead-in,questioning,strengthening and ending skillfully, and have developed their own unique teaching style.Novice teachers are inflexible in using these skills and cannot adapt to the content of the teaching material and the actual situation of the students.Specifically:(1)lead-in skills: novice teachers take more time in this part, and cannot introduce the new knowledge with clear language;they cannot build some connections between new and previous knowledge and their import content isn't instructive. However, the methods that novice teachers used are more flexible than expert teachers.(2)Questioning skills: novice teachers can't put forward instructive or proper questions orderly;they even cannot guide students to answer questions in a proper way when they made mistakes;(3)Strengthening skills: positive reinforcements are used often by both novice teachers and expert teachers;expert teachers can use various ways to praise students' good behaviors, but in order to they sometimes let students stand in class as a punishment;(4)Ending skills: the novice teachers take less time than the expert teachers and their summary cannot cover all of theimportant and difficult points.Novice teachers should clearly realize their own deficiencies, learn more from expert teachers, then improve micro-teaching skills gradually through continuous reflection and practice.
