From Elite Education To Mass Education

With the deepening of economic globalization,the popularization of higher education has become an irreversible trend,and the status of higher education has become increasingly prominent.Higher education in the United Kingdom originated in the twelfth and thirteenth centuries,but it has not been popularized for a variety of reasons for a long time.Until the end of the Second World War,the British government recognized the importance of higher education and began to take measures to accelerate the development of higher education.British higher education has a long history,but it is not the first country to realize the popularization of higher education.The completion of the popularization of British higher education is later than that of the United States,but the development path of popularization of British higher education has its own characteristics.In the decades after the war,the British quickly transferred from elite education to mass education,and now it has entered the stage of popularizing higher education.This paper mainly studies the transformation and development of British higher education from elite education to mass education.Firstly,it systematically sorts out the development process of British higher education popularization,clarifies the development of popularization,and grasps the whole process of popularization of British higher education.Secondly,it analyzes the reasons for the transformation of British higher education.It mainly analyzes the reasons for the transformation of British higher education from elite education to mass education,and summarizes it from five aspects: political factors,economic factors,cultural factors,public and international environment.Thirdly,it focuses on the specific measures for the popularization of higher education in the UK.The five measures for the popularization of higher education in the UK are summarized as follows: enacting laws and regulations to promote the popularization of higher education,increasing investment to promote the development of higher education,broadening the social classes and groups receiving higher education,expanding the enrollment scale of colleges and universities,and subsidizing poor students to complete their studies.Finally,the evaluation of the popularization of British higher education is discussed.Including the effectiveness and problems of the popularization of higher education.This paper analyzes the development of British higher education,the reasons,the measures taken,the results achieved and the existing problems.Combining the reality of China's higher education with the experience of the United Kingdom,it provides a reference for the healthy development of higher education in China,with a view to promoting the realization of the goal of a strong education.
