The Johnson administration's assistance policy for poor children was an important part of Johnson's "Great Society".The postwar economic boom did not make poverty disappear completely in the United States, and the poor in "Another America" did not have the opportunity to share in the fruits of social development, which became a national issue in the 1960 s.In the late 1950 s,as the unemployment problem became serious, ethnic issues intensified, and family patterns changed, the widening gap between the rich and the poor has made children in a relatively vulnerable position become a victim of social development. At the same time, the lack and deficiency of the federal government about poor children has been fully exposed. The construction of the "Great Society" in the 1960 s provided opportunities and possibilities for the assistance of poor children. The relatively moderate international situation of the Cold war between the US and the Soviet also created a good external environment for it.President Johnson declared "the War on Poverty" when facing the severe poverty problem. His own growth experience, the influence of the intellectual culture and the relatively full federal finance also made him more focus on poor children and have the capacity to solve this problem than the previous presidents.During the Johnson administration, poor children generally faced the problems with nutritional health and lack of education, which made the government assist them from four areas, including education policy and legislative support, food stamps and nutrition programs,Medicaid and AFDC.During this period, the social assistance to poor children was not only to help children shake off the material deprivation, but also more importantly to achieve equal opportunities for rights and to cut off the intergenerational epigenetics of poverty. The period of Johnson administration was a watershed that the federal government expanded the supportive actions to improve children's health, education and rights, and to improve the poor living conditions of low-income families and children. Many of the measures he took inherited the useful experience of previous governments since Roosevelt.Johnson also completed and expanded the Kennedy's unfinished businesses, which laid the foundation for the succeeding governments' assistance and play an important role in inheriting the former and leading the future. This paper studies the group of children through the historical perspective, the poor children were selected as the research object. And the group of poor children was examined in the social environment of the climax of the anti-poverty movement in the history of the United States in the 20 th century. The paper focused on the relevant assistance policy taken by the Johnson Government and its influences by analyzing the causes and presentsituation of poor children in the 1960 s.We study the "Great Society" of the Johnson Administration and the group of children under the influences the "Great Society" from the perspective of the mutual construction of children and society.Meanwhile,I hope to provide some useful reference and enlightenment for the assistance policy of the poor children in our country according to this research.
