Stereotype of others is the individual's belief or opinion about the characteristics and reasons of a certain group member. The meta-stereotype refers to the individual's belief or opinion on what kind of stereotypes people in the external group might hold about the group he/she belongs to.Previous studies on meta-stereotype were focused on students with learning difficulties,single-parent families and left-behind children, and less on Christian college students. The number of Christian college students in our country has far exceeded the number of believers in other religious colleges. What are the characteristics of the meta-stereotypes and the stereotypes of these Christian college students? In addition, previous studies have found that meta-stereotypes are important factors influencing intergroup relations, and adjusting meta-stereotypes can change intergroup relationships. So is this effect equally manifested in the Christian college student community?Based on the two considerations above, three studies were conducted. In the first study,a semi-open questionnaire was used to collect the words describing the characteristics of Christian college students' character, conduct, learning situation, interpersonal relationship, ideology and appearance.Based on the collected words,Christian college student meta-stereotypes and stereotypes two-level adjective scale were formulated. In the second study, the questionnaire method was used to test Christian college students and non-religious college students using the two types of scales ormulated by Study 1.The characteristics and attributes of Christian college students' meta-stereotypes,and stereotypes which the non-religious college students have were inspected. And the differences of characteristics and attributes between the college students' meta-stereotypes and stereotypes were compared. In the third Study,a single-factor of within-subjects was used. The independent variables are meta-stereotypes(positive,negative,neutral),the dependent variables are intergroup anxiety and intergroup relations, and the effects of the different attributes meta-stereotypes to intergroup anxiety and intergroup relationships were explored. The results showed that:(1)From the number of characteristic, there are 30 characteristics of Christian college students' meta-stereotypes,including 29 positive characteristics and 1 negative characteristic;32 stereotypes, including 29 positive characteristics and 3 negative characteristics;(2)From the content of the characteristic, the positive characteristics of the Christian college students' meta-stereotypes and the positive characteristics of the stereotypes are the same;the negative characteristic of the meta-stereotype is the same as one of the negative characteristics of the stereotypes;(3)From the scores of characteristic, the scores of positive meta-stereotypes of Christian college students are significantly lower than those of positive characteristics of stereotypes;the scores of negative meta-stereotypes on negative characteristics and the differences of scores of negative characteristics of stereotypes not significantly;(4)The intergroup anxiety and intergroup relationship of Christian college students are not significantly different under the different meta-stereotypes attributes. The following conclusions are drawn:(1)The positive characteristics of Christian college students' meta-stereotypes and stereotypes are significantly more than negative ones.(2)The consistency between Christian college students' meta-stereotypes and stereotypes is higher, but meta-stereotypes are more positive than stereotypes.(3)The meta-stereotypes of different attributes do not produce Significant impact to the Christian college students'intergroup anxiety and intergroup relations.
