Distraction, also known as mind wandering in psychology.College students were used as subjects to explore the influence of mind wandering on English reading comprehension by means of language schema and content schema respectively, starting with schema theory of reading, combining with probe stimulation paradigm, using mental wandering frequency questionnaire and self-designed English questionnaire.Experiments 1 explored the effects of mind wandering on different language schema individuals when reading expository English articles. Two factors(mind wandering frequency:high and low)*2(language schema:high and low)were used to compare the reading comprehension scores, reading time and actual frequency of mind wandering.Experiments 2 explored the effects of mind wandering on different language schema individuals when reading narrative English articles with different content schemas.A mixed experimental design of 2(mind wandering frequency:high and low)*2(language schema:high and low)*2(text content schema:unfamiliar and familiar)was used to compare the reading comprehension performance, reading time and actual frequency of mind wandering. The results are as follows:1.Different schemas play different roles in the frequency of mind wandering.Content schema can cause significant differences in the frequency of mind wandering, while language schema can not cause significant differences in the frequency of mind wandering.2.In terms of the effect of mind wandering on English reading comprehension, the interaction between linguistic schema and mind wandering is marginal significant;mind wandering, linguistic schema and content schema have significant interaction on narrative English reading, when the individual language schema is low, mind wandering frequency is high,or individual language. When the schema is high and the frequency of mind wandering is low,the reading effect of articles with high familiarity is better than that of articles without familiarity.3.On the influence of reading comprehension time, mind wandering itself does not cause significant changes in reading time, but content schema can cause changes in reading time of narrative articles. The reading time of familiar topic articles is significantly shorter than that of unfamiliar topic articles.4.Regardless of the genre of English articles, the individuals with higher mind wandering rate have poor reading comprehension, and those with lower mind wandering rate have better reading comprehension;those with higher linguistic schemata have better reading comprehension than those with lower linguistic schemata.5.When individuals read English narrative articles with familiar themes, their comprehension is better than that of unfamiliar narrative articles.
