Nowadays,with the integration of world economic development and the continuous enhancement of China's comprehensive national strength,China has a more and more important position and voice in the world.This development background puts forward new requirements to foreign language education in China.Foreign language teaching is facing new challenges.How to organize English learning content effectively and cultivate international talents who can meet the needs of China's future development has become an important educational problem that our country must face.In the new round of basic education curriculum reform in China,cultural awareness is incorporated into the English Curriculum Standard for compulsory Education for the first time,which fully shows that it is inevitable to infiltrate cultural education into English teaching in primary schools.Primary school is the basic stage of learning English.Permeating cross-cultural education in foreign language teaching can not only stimulate learners' interest in English learning from an early age and deepen their understanding of the language knowledge they have learned,but also guide them to understand multiple cultural content,enhance understanding and tolerance of different cultures and lay the foundation for the formation of good character and correct values in the future.However,the current situation of cross-cultural education in foreign language teaching in primary schools is not optimistic.Through the observation in EF Primary School,the author finds that there are many problems in the implementation of cross-cultural education in foreign language teaching in primary schools.This has something to do with the lack of clear practical guidance strategies in the current theoretical research on cross-cultural education in foreign language teaching.English is the most effective subject for school to implement cross-cultural education.As the main carrier of foreign language teaching content,English textbooks is an important support for carrying out cross-cultural education.Therefore,the author starts with the English subject and takes the PEP primary school English textbook as an example to explore the feasible practical strategies of using primary school English textbooks to carry out cross-cultural education.First of all,based on the scope of culture in foreign language teaching defined by curriculum standards,the content of cross-cultural education is divided into seven aspects: history and geography,local conditions and customs,traditional customs,life style,code of conduct,literature and art,and values.The content analysis method is used to analyze the content of cross-cultural education contained in the book in detail.Secondly,according to the characteristics of the content,the author thinks that situational teaching method,role-playing method,group discussion and writing exercise method can be adopted to carry out cross-cultural education.This thesis focuses on providing practical guidance for foreign language teachers' cross-cultural education,so the author turns the focus to teachers' practical strategies in cross-cultural education.This paper analyzes the teaching strategies of cross-cultural education as a whole,including carefully designing the content of cross-cultural education,creating a reasonable situation of cross-cultural education,closely fitting the discussion theme of unit and effectively strengthening students' communication practice.Based on the real teaching cases collected by the author,this paper further probes into the teaching strategies of cross-cultural education in English teaching in primary schools.The content of cross-cultural education may be hidden behind the vocabulary,so vocabulary teaching can be used to permeate cross-cultural education;it may be reflected in reading materials,so reading teaching can be used for cross-cultural education;it may also exist in listening materials,so it is necessary to use listening and speaking teaching to carry out cross-cultural education and strengthen students' cross-cultural education practice.Finally,the author also makes some reflection in this paper: equal emphasis on cross-cultural education and language teaching,equal emphasis on Chinese culture and western culture,and equal emphasis on the process and results of cross-cultural education.
