The relationship between language and culture has been widely acknowledged. Meanwhile, the cultural teaching has been paid more and more attention to in teaching Chinese as a second language(TCSL). However, most of the researches, which focus on the theoretical discussion or empirical statements, are lack of scientific investigation. Moreover, in the primary stage of TCSL, teachers always pay much more attention to the pronunciation, vocabulary and grammar than to the culture, which will have a bad effect on the cultural teaching in TCSL.This paper selects two sets of representative Chinese primary intensive textbooks as samples. By focusing on the cultural vocabulary, it builds a statistical data of the cultural items. It also makes a survey to study the leaning of cultural items of students who adopt these two sets of textbooks.This paper compares two sets of textbooks in terms of the choice and the layout of cultural items. According to the statistical data and the survey result, this paper gives some advice to the textbook compilation and the cultural teaching. This paper also suggests that it’s very urgent and important to formulate a cultural syllabus.This paper is composed of five chapters:Chapter I:Introduction. It mainly introduces the research background, research objects, research methods and research objectives.Chapter Ⅱ:Research results of the cultural teaching in TCSL. This part makes a list of the related researches from three aspects:the concept of culture, the relationship between language and culture and the cultural teaching theories in TCSL.Chapter III:Statistics of cultural items and related analyses. According to the statistical data, this part analyses the statistics of cultural items in these two textbooks.Chapter IV:The survey of the study of cultural items. This part makes a survey of the study of cultural items and analysis the results of the survey.Chapter V:Put forward some advice to the introduction of cultural items. According to the statistical data and the survey result, this part gives some advice to the textbook compilation and the cultural teaching.Finally, it summarizes the main contents and review the disadvantages of the paper.
