Interest is the best teacher.Cultivating and stimulating interest in English learning is one of the tasks of the new English curriculum standard in the English course of primary school.Therefore,interest occupies an important position in English learning.In the process of continuous urbanization,primary school students in the rural-urban fringe account for an increasing proportion of the total number of students.It is particularly important to study their English learning interests,understand the current state of English learning of primary schools in the rural-urban fringe,and make corresponding suggestions.Under the guidance of relevant theories,this research investigates and cultivates the English learning interest of primary school students in the rural-urban fringe.It aims to provide a reference for English education in the rural-urban fringe of China and a method for novice teachers in the rural-urban fringe to teach English.This research mainly focuses on the following issues: 1)Explaining the current situation and influencing factors of English learning interest in students of the rural-urban fringe;2)Discuss the way to cultivate the English learning interest of primary school students in the rural-urban fringe.This study conducted classroom observations of the 3rd to 6th grade classes in Primary School C,Lanshan District,Linyi City.Interviews were conducted using a combination of stratified sampling and random sampling.The interview was a semi-structured outline,and then interviews of students,parents,and teachers were shared.The discourse is qualitatively analyzed.Finally,two rounds of action research were conducted to explore the interest cultivation methods of primary school students in the rural-urban fringe.The study found that the main factors affecting the English learning interest of primary school students in the rural-urban fringe include four aspects.In the aspect of students,the factors mainly contain emotional experience,outlook on life,learning attitude and habits.In the aspect of teachers,class organization and management,teaching design,teachers' professional level,teachers' appearance and attitude are the main factors.In the aspect of parents,the frequency of home-school communication,parenting style and their education level are included.In the aspect of society and school,the social environment,learning frequency,reward system,the design of teaching materials consist of the main factors.This study gives specific suggestions on cultivating the English learning interest of primary school students in the rural-urban fringe from the four levels of students,teachers,parents,society and schools.At the level of students,it is necessary to form a positive psychologicalexperience in the learning process and cultivate a positive outlook on life,good learning attitudes and habits.At the level of teachers,establish an effective class management system,design colorful classroom activities,and improve their teaching quality.At the level of parents,they should focus on home-school communication,establish harmonious family relationships,and focus on parent-child interaction.At the level of school,it's important to open classes for parents,strengthen education informatization and teacher training,and appropriately adjust the amount of English lessons.At the social level,it's essential to strengthen investment in the education of rural-urban fringe and optimize the design of teaching materials,set up scholarships and so on.I hope this research can be a starting point for deeper interest research.
