English has gradually grown into an international language recently,and English has been paid much attention domestically and abroad.English learning is considered one of the most necessary subjects in school teaching and English skill is seen as one of the conditions of choosing talents in our society.English learning motivation,as an influencing factor,plays a vital role in English learning.Recent years,English learning motivation has been paid much attention by the second language acquisition researchers and English teachers.However,many a student has confronted demotivation in English learning,but most researchers laid little eyes on it.At present,although there are some research results on English motivation in China,we have to admit there are some problems.Most scholars focused their attention on the senior high school students and college students,but paid less attention to junior high school students and not to mention primary school students.In fact,junior high school is the period that students form their English skills and lay a good foundation for future English learning and by observing the junior middle school students' current English learning situation in rural areas.The author found that many rural junior high school students were not interested in learning English at all and they lack motivation in learning English,thus it is necessary to explore the situation of junior high school students'demotivation in English learning,and then the author will give some countermeasures which would be favourable for the rural English teachers to improve their teaching and students can recover the motivation.In order to have a better understanding of students' English learning demotivation situation in rural areas and to explore the factors that impeded the junior high school students'English learning and finally give the countermeasures to change this adverse situation to make English teaching and learning much better,318 junior high school students from Liaoyang were selected as research subjects.Questionnaire and interviews were used to investigate rural students' English learning demotivation situation,hoping to be helpful for improving the situation of English learning of the junior high school and can provide feasible reference data for similar studies in the future and promote English learning and teaching especially the junior high school students in rural areas in northeast China.Through the questionnaire and interview we can find that:there is a phenomenon of demotivation in the process of English learning in rural junior high school students;the main factors causing the demotivation of junior high school students in the process of English learning in rural areas are the students factor,the text or English knowledge factor,the social environment factor and the last is the teacher factor;There are no significant differences in English learning demotivation of junior high school students in different genders;Students in Grade 3 of junior high school has significant differences with Grade 2 and Grade 1 in English learning demotivation,but Grade 1 and Grade 2 has no significant differences in English learning demotivation.Based on the thesis,some suggestions for removing the demotivation in learning English of junior high school students were provided,such as:to improve students' confidence in learning English,to improve teachers' teaching ability and professional ability,to create a good atmosphere for students to learn English and so on.
