Appropriation And Collage—A Study On The Painting Language Of American Neo-expressionist Artist Julian Schnabel

In the 1980 s,the western art world experienced the endless proliferation of "abstract expressionism" in the us in the 1960 s and artistic innovation in the 1970 s,and artists were generally tired after indifferent expression forms and endless innovation exploration,so they began to pick up the brush and began to practice painting in the traditional sense.Inspired by the new German painting,an art movement centered on "Renaissance of figurative" and "easel painting" emerged in the United States,namely the "new expressionism movement" in the United States.In this movement,artist Julian schnabel became a representative of the new expressionism movement because of his unique painting language style.Has the rich theory research value.This paper is divided into four chapters.The first chapter analyzes the reasons for the rise of neo-expressionism movement in the United States from the perspective of history and nationality,and briefly describes the relationship between neo-expressionism,German expressionism and German new painting.The second chapter introduced the artist,and from the "appropriate" and "collage" art perspective Julian schnabel's artistic style of painting and painting content,narrative Julian schnabel in new expressionist painting unique painting language,and further from the denotation and connotation level analysis of the characteristics of the new expressionism;The third chapter,from the perspective of specific painting language,namely appropriation and collage,makes a detailed analysis of Julian schnabel's uniqueness in painting materials and painting style characteristics,and makes a comparison between his bold innovation in painting materials and Robert rauschenberg,a famous artist with the same creation form.In addition,from the perspective of image processing techniques,this paper makes a comparison with David Sally,who is also a neo-expressionist artist,and deepens the theme through reasonable horizontal comparison.The fourth chapter from Julian schnabel's works of different themes,analysis the author use different symbols for the picture,these works have how images,and works with the relationship between the artist's unique painting language,then analysis the painter in his works to show the ideological connotation and self expression.In this article,through parsing the artist Julian schnabel's painting language to explore new expressionist painting technique of expression and style characteristic,including the interpretation of the artist to the diversity of processing on the image,from the style,theme,materials and other aspects of development for the viewer to see the easel painting itself also has infinite possibilities.This is of positive significance to the artists who take painting as their main form of creation.The American neo-expressionism movement is a movement for the return of easel painting,which is of great significance to the development of painting itself as a correction of the left-leaning thoughts in the western art circle.Easel painting was reintroduced in the 1980 s to the infinite possibilities and vitality of traditional art forms,which made modern and contemporary artists see again.Through the detailed analysis of the painting language of Julian schnabel,the representative artist of neo-expressionism,the author,as a supporter of easel painting,would like to inspire my own understanding and exploration on the practical level of artistic creation.Thinking about how to return to painting in the traditional sense in the contemporary era of changing art forms;How to select appropriate means of artistic expression among various art forms;How to expand the space,form,content,theme and so on between the square inch of easel painting.With the development of the new expressionism movement,painting can be revived to some extent.Therefore,how to keep the easel painting alive for contemporary artists can be explored in the new expressionism movement.
