Immortal Mountain And Mortal Realm

Po-Shan-Hsiang-Lu is one of the representative artifacts of the Han Dynasty.The mainstream research holds that the shape of Po-Shan-Hsiang-Lu is the representation of sacred mountain on the sea,so as to express the eternal wish of the owner of Po-Shan-Hsiang-Lu for immortality.But Po-Shan-Hsiang-Lu is not the only object with a special mountain cover,and the image decoration on some of them has not been given enough attention.In view of the current lack of recognition and interpretation of the mountain cover image,this study attempts to propose the methodological issues of interpretations through three steps to read the mountain cover: 1.Identify and classify the mountain cover image;2.Interpret the cultural meaning of the mountain cover image;3.Speculate on the social reflection and meaning of the mountain cover with images.Based on these premises and method,the proposed study draws the following conclusions: 1.The origin of the mountain cover image mainly comes from the censer;2.There are two kinds of sources of image elements: The foreign images and the traditional images;3.The above images are respectively constructed to conform to the actual situation of the real mountain,as well as the fantasy mountain full of imaginative elements.4.The original intention of realistic mountain design mainly includes three possibilities: conforming to the identity of exotic spices;the performance of Liao sacrifice;and miniaturizing "the world".The original intention of fanciful mountain design expresses the yearning for fairyland and reflects the appeal of ascending to fairyland.The social impetus behind the design intentions can be summed up: the praise of the achievements of Emperor Liu Che of Han in many aspects and the inevitability of the development of the thought of immortality promotion in the significance of artifacts and images since Emperor Liu Che of Han.
