The Dimension Of Curation

The English word“curator”was reportedly translated by Taiwanese Lu Rongzhi as“Ce Zhan Ren”(策展人)since the 1980s,and the term“curator”has been widely used in the domestic art field and well known to the public.The identity of“curator”has gradually occupied a decisive position in the contemporary art.The origin and development of the curatorial system has integrated new blood for the Chinese contemporary art exhibition.The theme and form,content and methods,exhibition methods,and space utilization of art exhibitions have undergone multi-level and multi-dimensional changes.The author attempts to proceed from different dimensions,by tracing the origin and evolution of the word “curator”,the characteristics of the Chinese translation,the curator’s roles,the relationship between the curator and other artistic roles,the social environment of the curator,and the curator’s living condition in different contexts between China and the West were summarized,analyzed,and studied.On this basis,combined with the practical cases of Chinese and foreign curators and the formation of curatorial language and style,it aims to explore the generation and evolution of the meaning of “ce zhan ren”(curator)based on Chinese context.
