The Characterization And Singing Analysis Of Morjana In The Opera "Alkina"

George Frideric Handel(1685-1759)is an exceptionally representative composer in Baroque era.Hiscompositional genres cover numerous domains,including operas,oratorios,orchestral works,etc.His operas absorb other countries’ musical styles and add his own compositional styles on the basis of Italian opera,making great contributions to the development of opera and oratorio.The opera “Alcina”was created in 1735,premiered at the Covent Garden theatre in London in April of that year.Set in myth,this opera enjoys a prestige of “Magic Opera” along with operas like “Rinaldo”which contain plentiful unparalleled coloratura and virtuosity.This paper will analyze the dramatic and musical images of Morgana respectively from the aspects of Handel’s opera composition,the character images and plot development of the opera“Alcina”.Taking Morgana’s two arias“ Tornami a vagheggiar”and“ Ama,sospira”as examples,the study of Handel’s characterization techniques deepens the author’s understanding of opera,thereby the author shapes the characters and completes the work preferably.
