The Use Of Compensation Strategies In The Chinese Translation Of Social Science Texts

The geopolitical economics involved in this project belongs to the emerging discipline of international political economy.This report is based on the translation of the third and fourth chapters of Geopolitical Economy.Due to factors such as differences in language and culture,translation losses are inevitable in translation activities between source language and target language.In order to effectively realize the conversion of language and cultural information and achieve effective communication,translators must consciously carry out translation compensation,and strive to eliminate obstacles in language,culture and aesthetics that cannot be overcome by conventional symbol conversion,and to maximize the restoration of the various meanings and aesthetic values lost by the above factors.In the process of translation of Geopolitical Economy,there arose various difficulties from the aspects of language,culture and aesthetics had arisen.In order to effectively solve these problems,this thesis tries to compensate the original translation loss under the guidance of the first six of the eight translation methods proposed by Xia Tingde,namely,integrated compensation,in-situ compensation,discrete compensation,similar compensation,heterogeneous compensation and ectopic compensation.At the language level,this thesis uses the method of integrated compensation and in-situ compensation to solve the problem of lexical semantic vacancy,and uses the method of ectopic compensation and in-situ compensation to solve the problem of cohesion at the discourse level.At the cultural level,this thesis mainly uses discrete compensation and integrated compensation.At the aesthetic level,heterogeneous compensation and similar compensation methods are adopted to solve the problem.The main goal of this thesis is to help the further understanding and application of translation compensation strategies,to provide suggestions and references on the relevant types of translations,and to accumulate more experience for the translator's future practice.
