Since the middle of XIX century,Chinese immigrants began to appear in the Russian Far East.In the imperial period of Russia and USSR,Chinese immigrants exerted some influence on social production and life in the region. After the collapse of the Soviet Union,Chinese immigrants appeared in the Far East. They are concentrated in the areas of trade, construction, forestry and agriculture. In addition, they also have a significant impact on the industrial and social life of the Far East. With the advent of Chinese migrants in the Far East, the “The Threat of China Theory” reappeared.Although the population of Russia in the Far East is declining, but immigrants from the Commonwealth of Independent States is not increasing.Therfore,Russia is inviting a large number of Chinese immigrants to participate in the economic development of the Far East. However, due to the serious aging of China's population, shortage of its own labor force and growth of labor prices, the number of Chinese migrants in the Far East will not increase significantly in conditions when foreign migrants can get low income in Russia. The main part of this article is divided into four chapters. The first chapter describes the situation with Chinese immigrants during the Imperial Russia and USSR in the Far East.It mainly analyzes the reasons for the appearance of Chinese immigrants in the Far East, the distribution of Chinese immigrants in various industries in Soviet Russia, their role in economic development in the Far East and the policies adopted by the Russian government for Chinese immigrants in history. The second chapter is devoted to the survival of Chinese immigrants in Far East after the collapse of the Soviet Union.Chapter 3 discusses the image of Chinese immigrants in eyes of the Russian public and the reasons for “The Threat of China Theory.” The fourth chapter predicts the trend of the development of Chinese immigrants in the Far Eastern region within the framework of ChinaRussia relations.Studying the problem of immigration in the Far East can help us understand the living conditions of Chinese immigrants in the Far East in different historical periods, their role in local socio-economic development and the impact on Sino-Russian relations.
