Barber's Theory Of Strong Democracy And Its Enlightenment To Contemporary Chinese Deliberative Democracy

Strong democracy theory is by the famous American scholar Benjamin Barber to make up for the shortcomings and defects of liberal democracy theory and put forward participatory democratic reason theory.At this time,more scholars put forward the theory of communitarianism,republicanism,consultative democracy and so on,which contributed to the revival and development of the democratic theory.Based on the theory of liberal democracy,the theory of strong democracy continuously absorbs the content of Marx's theory and participatory democracy theory and develops into a democratic theoretical system that has a unique view of citizen participation.Strong democracy has done a deep research on the core contents of citizenship,citizen community,citizen participation and political discussion,which has provided new inspiration for the design of citizen participation system.Through the revision of the liberal democratic theory,the theory of strong democracy has fully promoted the development of Western democratic theories and inspired the formulation of public policies.To objectively analyze the contribution and limitation of the theory of strong democracy,this paper draws the inspiration to the construction of China's consultative democracy.We should improve the participation process of Deliberative Democracy from three aspects of participation ability,participants and channels of participation.We should improve deliberative democracy system from the aspects of participation spirit,power factors and party functions.
