At present,there is a large number of widowed elderly women living alone in rural areas of China,with the growth rate increasing rapidly.As a special group,there are some problems,such as lack of emotion and spiritual comfort,bothering them.This study reviewed the relevant research of domestic and foreign scholars and found that the emotional status as well as the living of the group of widowed elderly women living alone in rural areas was not very optimistic.The quality of life and happiness index of them directly had an effect on the harmony,stability and development of their families and the whole society.Social work,as a profession and occupation to help others,can help elderly widowed women living alone in rural areas relieve grief and provide psychological counseling and emotional support using scientific theories and methods.Under the guidance of the social work professional theory,this study carried out a case service of emotional support for widowed elderly women living alone in rural areas.The elderly H was selected as the client.Based on the social support theory,case-based work methods were used to provide services.Interviews were conducted from four aspects:(1)the client,(2)her daughter,(3)her neighbors and(4)the village committee.It was found that the three aspects of the problem the client was faced to.They were:(1)the psychological and emotional problem caused by the death of her husband,which made her not used to living alone after widowing;(2)lack of family companionship and alienation of the parent-child relationship since her daughter worked outside;(3)alienation of the neighborhood,in that the communication between her and neighbor decreased as the age increased.During the service process,social workers helped the client to relieve her depressed and lonely emotions,and gave her as much emotional care as possible,so that the client could feel the warm from the family and society,with her uneasiness and loneliness eliminated.The whole intervention process,lasted about half a year,has achieved a certain service effectiveness.The pain and grievance of the client after widowing have been significantly reduced.She can also maintain active communication and exchanges with relatives,friends and neighbors with a much healthier body physically and mentally.Finally,the experience was summarized from three aspects:(1)The social workers should use the interview skills reasonably during the interview process;(2)A diversified network system of emotional support for widowed elderly women living alone in rural areas should be constructed;(3)Case work plays an irreplaceable role in the emotional support of elderly widowed women living alone in rural areas.There are also three deficiencies in this study that are worth reflectingon:(1)The client was prone to psychological dependence on social workers.In the service process,attention should be paid to training the client 's initiative;(2)The service process ignored the client's life difficulties existed,and no attention was paid to the relationship between material conditions and emotional conditions.In the service process,the situation of the client should be considered comprehensively and a reasonable service plan should be formulated;(3)Due to time constraints,it was difficult to carry out follow-up visits.technology means should be used to get in touch with the client.
