Since Donald Trump took office, there have been unprecedented and serious conflicts between the United States and Europe over nontraditional issues such as NATO's military spending, the U.S.withdrawal from the INF treaty and the Iran nuclear deal, economic and trade issues, climate change, energy security and the refugee crisis. The immediate cause of the conflict is a series of foreign policies developed by the Trump administration under the slogan "America first".The fundamental reason is that with the change of the international pattern and the development of globalization, the common interest base of the transatlantic alliance is not only objectively weakened, but also influenced by political trends such as populism, and has been reduced subjectively. The objective weakening of the basis of common interests and the change of political thinking such as populism in the conceptual level reinforce each other, exacerbating the persistent inequality in the transatlantic alliance and creating the contradictions between Europe and the United States since 2017.The current degree of weakening of common interests can only cause and strengthen the sino-American relations in the short-term or even medium-term friction and contradictions,so that the Relationship between Europe and the United States to a more pragmatic trading loose alliance, without decisively shaking the Relationship between Europe and the United States, fundamentally destroying the transatlantic alliance. While the transatlantic partnership may be repaired in the latter stages of the Trump administration or after leaving office, the adjustment of relations between the United States and Europe is unlikely to be reversed and the trend towards a reduction in common interests will be maintained.
