An Analysis Of The Characteristics And Internal And External Motivations Of Myanmar Media's Public Opinion On China

At present,China and Myanmar have agreed to work together to jointly build a community with a shared future,ushering in a new era of bilateral relations where Myanmar media plays a critical role.This paper reviewed the status quo of Myanmar media and sorted out its trends and characteristics.By comparing the Global New Light of Myanmar—a government-run official newspaper(in English)and the Eleven Daily—a private newspaper(in Burmese),this paper analyzed how the official and private newspaper varied in reporting China-related affairs,what is their respective impact on China-Myanmar relations and the corresponding causes.According to the results,Myanmar media’s coverages of China have shown a growingly diversified trend as the media transits and evolves,generally tallying with the developmental needs of relations between the two countries.Meanwhile,the Myitsone Dam dilemma and other Chinese investment are often hyped in the private newspaper,which affects the Myanmar government’s decision-making and project progress.It is recommended to supply more news information related to China,enhance the news covering the borderlands between China and Myanmar,and seek multiple channels to shape China’s image in a positive way.We shall also purposefully upgrade the communication capacity for Chinese-funded enterprises in Myanmar,intensify investment in new media platforms,and push cooperation with Myanmar media to a higher level.
