Research On The Role Change Of Miao Women Under The Background Of Ethnic Tourism Development

With the rise of modern tourism,people's demand for cultural diversity becomes more and more intense.They yearn for exotic experiences of culture and life,especially for the arts,customs and human landscape in ethnic minority areas.It is in such background that the ethnic tourism shows its huge attraction and great potentials.The development of ethnic tourism plays an important role in the economy and society of the tourist destinations.Meanwhile ethnic tourism exerts profound influence on local people's life,especially to the minority women.The culture of ethnic handicrafts,songs,dancing,diets and etc.created and carried on by Miao women become the main resource of ethnic culture.Miao women participate in the service of ethnic tourism in the forms of singing and dancing performances,diet services,handicrafts making and so on.They are also the main force in ethnic tourist activities.This paper defines related concepts based on predecessors' researches.Adopting anthropologic approach and targeting the Miao women in Xijiang Miao Town in Southeast of Guizhou Province,this paper illustrates the Miao women's role changes in the context of ethnic tourism developing and discusses the interaction between women's role changes and development of ethnic tourism based on the theory of social gender analysis.As a significant force for the ethnic tourism,Miao women promote the healthy development of local ethnic tourism.Meanwhile,the ethnic tourism has changed the general living environment of Miao women's life and promoted their self-development.This paper is divided into six chapters: Chapter One summarizes the genesis and reviews related research and introduces the angle of the view,methods and meaning of the research.Chapter Two,starting from the theoretical research between the development of ethnic tourism and roles of minority gender,briefly explains the development of ethnic tourism and the gender role characteristics of traditional minority women.Chapter three presents an overview of Xijiang Miao town and a summary of main modes of Miao women's participating in the ethnic tourism.Chapter four,taking Miao people's traditional hand embroidery as an example,describes the present developing situation in ethnic tourist development forMiao women in Xijiang Miao town through field interviews data.Chapter Five analyzes the gender role of Miao women in the traditional society and the influence of economy,society and culture and role changes to the Miao women in Xijiang Miao town due to the ethnic tourism.Chapter six is the conclusion of this paper.
