The obvious feature that distinguishes geography from other subjects is map.The words used in geography describe concepts and knowledge,but can't describe the space location,distribution and the relation of objects.However,maps can do so.So map is the briefest geography book.In the geography teaching of senior high school,the information based on images is direct.So learning to read pictures is the basic skill that students must acquire.At the same time,the students' ability to read the pictures influences geography learning.Nowadays,as the information technology develops rapidly,maps connects with our lives more closely and becomes the basic way of people's communication.Daily life requires everyone's increasing knowledge of map.The awareness of space and the ability of map becomes more and more important in modern society.In our daily life,the information people get is large and complicated.Therefore,it becomes particularly important that how to have access to information.It requires geography teachers to attach greater importance to teaching students how to read pictures and how to get information independently.Facing middle schools' present teaching situation in our country and looking back on previous educational revolutions,we find senior high school students have some problems?In the course of the research,first of all,through questionnaires and interviews,we understand the common mistakes of senior high school students in geographical map reading,and conclude five t ypes of errors:the deviation of understanding geographical concepts and principles,the influence of inertia thinking on the direction of map reading,and the inflexibility of knowledge transfer,the method of reading the map is wrong,and the feature of the region is confused.The causes of t hese errors mainly come from both teachers and students.Finally,on the basis of comprehensive a nalysis,the author puts forward some targeted strategies to improve the ability of senior high sch ool students to read drawings:to arouse students' interest in reading drawings,to train students to master correct reading methods,and to attach importance to the teaching of basic concepts and pri nciples.Improve students' ability to understand maps,combine modern multimedia teaching with t raditional blackboard writing,and train students' ability to apply maps.Finally,the paper puts forward the deficiency and existing problems,which need to be further studied and perfected.
