China's economy has entered the period of structural adjustment and industrial transformation. In order to adapt to the transformation of the economy, the demand for human capital changes accordingly, and individuals will be required to be able to create higher value. The degree of education is the main indicator of human capital. In China, the competitive-test oriented educational system makes the number of years of education related to the students' academic performance. However,in the basic education, the gap between urban and rural students' academic performance is very significant. There are many factors related to the academic performance of young people.Studies at China and abroad have shown that expected school opportunities and individual expected educational returns are two important factors. If students mistakenly estimate the opportunities for school and the return on education, they will eventually get consequence on their academic performance in a competitive education system. In order to understand the interaction mechanism between the academic performance and the personal education expectation of the rural junior high school students in the basic education fully, this study focuses on the impact of the individual education expectation on the academic performance in different angles, and tries to establish the different dimensions of the individual education expectation from the economic and non economic perspectives. The correlation between educational return, expected school opportunities and academic performance is put forward,so as to provide new ideas for reducing the gap between urban and rural academic performance.Based on the microcosmic survey data and taking the personal education expectation as the inspection point, the present situation and the mechanism of the academic performance of the two are studied in detail from the perspective of the expected return on education and the opportunity to go to school.First, this study reviews and analyzes the previous theories and literature on education expectation and academic performance, summarizes the conclusions of previous studies and draws the shortcomings of the existing research, and finds the breakthrough point for this article according to the corresponding theoretical basis.Based on the main indicators, the main empirical analysis framework is established.Secondly, this study makes a descriptive statistical analysis on the expected return, the expected school opportunities and the academic performance of the rural junior high school students in China's basic education, and understands the current situation and trend of the individual education expectation and academic performance of the rural junior high school students in our country, and uses the OLS model and the MNP model to carry out an empirical analysis to investigate the individual teaching in an all-round way.The relationship between education expectation and academic performance. The empirical results show that the rural junior high school students lack the relevant information about the return on education and the opportunity to go to school, especially the return on education, which is vague on the future development plan. The expected return on education does not reflect the students' true feelings about the school expectations. There is a correlation between the expected school opportunities and the academic performance, and the dropout after the junior high school graduation. The expected opportunities for learning to work have a negative correlation with academic performance. The expected opportunities for continuing school after junior high school graduation are positively related to academic performance, and the students' academic performance is better than the expected opportunities for senior middle school students after junior high school graduation. The relationship between the expected school opportunities and the academic performance may not be straight. It is connected by other variables. Finally, according to the theoretical analysis and empirical results of the article,we combined with the current education of junior high school students in rural areas. It puts forward some rationalization proposals for further reducing the gap between urban and rural basic education.
