In recent years, the relationship between the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law isincreasingly becoming the focus problem by the community and the academic. Studieshave shown that in modern family, this problem has become one of the importantissues that affect marital happiness and family harmony following the “ExtramaritalLove”. So if the relationship between the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law is good,then the whole family will be happiness. The poor relationship will not only affect therelationship of other family members but also lead to the disintegration of the marriage.We can see, dealing with this relationship is the key to dealing with other relationships.With the changing of time and society, the traditional relationship betweenmother-in-law and daughter-in-law has been challenged by modern culture, thusshowing the new features.This study was based on a lot of reading literature. The researcher did thisresearch for20married women and their mothers and mothers-in-law withsemi-structured case interviews and the method of observation in Changchun. Thebackground of this research is Urban only-child family. This interviews expanded thefocus from the perspective of individuals and families to society. On this basis, theresearcher did the qualitative analysis with the role theory, social interaction theory andsocial exchange theory. The researcher summarized contemporary type of relationshipbetween mother-in-law and daughter-in-law, the characteristics, influencing factorsbased on the characteristics of only-child, and how to get along. Through interviews, Ifound that the relationship between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law now is differentfrom that in the past: the relationship has become a hidden problem from a dominant problem; yielding from labor to emotion; the maintenance of the relationship has beenrelated to other family members. The author will analyze and reflect to these factors.
