The Reconstruction Of Modern Motherhood

In recent years,a series of television dramas and net posts on family parenting have received widespread attention.Compared to the loving image of traditional mothers,modern mothers' images are often associated with vocabulary such as anxiety.Many researchers arttribute the reasons of modern mother's image change to the heavy burden of parenting and the pressure of social development.However,few people ask why not fathers should take the responsibility of parenting instead of mother.With this question,I chose a community in a third-tier city in Jiangsu Province as a field investigation point.Through my fieldwork of parents in the community,I found that modern motherhood was affected by both the scientific parenting concept and the traditional family concept.Modern women are disciplined by the parenting knowledge,which represents scientific spirit,and at the same time are influenced by the traditional family concepts.The modern women have not jumped out of the traditional position of “good wife and good mother,they are performing the maternal duties also part of the father's duties.First,the concept of scientific parenting disciplines modern motherhood.According to the concept of scientific parenting,a healthy and a good child must be born in accordance with scientific methods.When this concept is applied in practice,it is reflected in all aspects of parenting,for example,monitoring the maternal,fetal and child health status through various inspection techniques during pre-pregnancy,pregnancy and postpartum,and emphasizing specialization and scientification in the care process.And refined operations,as well as the pursuit of advanced teaching concepts and scientific education methods in the children's education process.The concept of scientific parenting contributes to the improvement of population quality,but this concept has also become a tool for disciplinary training of women in long-term practice.It has strengthened women's awareness of maternity and defined the content of modern motherhood.Second,modern motherhood follows the framework of traditional maternity.The concept of scientific parenting not only provides technical guidance for parenting,but also provides people with the imagination of a wonderful family.The concept of scientific parenting places great emphasis on a good parent-child atmosphere,and considers that a good parenting atmosphere has the effect of shaping and adjusting children's behavior,and has an impact on children's learning ability,self-confidence,and self-esteem.However,the concept of scientific parenting does not clearly define the parental responsibilities of both sexes.When it comes to the division of labor,it still follows the traditional pattern of division of labor.In the Chinese traditional family concept,"home is everything","good wife and mother",and "good father and son" are emphasized.These concepts attach the same importance to family harmony as the scientific concept of parenting,and they also perform gender division of labor in the family.The concept of scientific childcare does not clearly define the genderdivision of labor,while the traditional gender division of labor plays a role.People are more accustomed to the responsibility of women in childcare,women are regarded as the object of carrying out scientific childcare concepts,and the results of parenting are used to judge women's value.Parenting is one of the most common things in daily life.People have long been accustomed to taking care of children,so that people think that everything is taken for granted.In my long-term survey,through the observation of parents' parenting behaviors and the understanding of parenting psychology,I finds that compared with traditional parenthood,the main change in modern motherhood lies in the concept and method of parenting.Modern women still do not eacape from the framework in traditional culture--"Man managing external affairs women internal".Parenting is still the main criterion for measuring women's value.Both the concept of scientific parenting and the traditional family concept have reconstructed modern motherhood.
