Hundred year's policy based on education,while the education policy based on teachers.Teachers are the essential resources for education development,further more,the excellent teachers guarantee the improving of teaching quality,of whom the excellent faculty are representatives of those many hard-working teachers.It is their experience which is valuable asset that needs to be inherited and carried forward.To understand their thinking and working,explore their journey to become a famous teacher,analyze the factors influencing their professional development and find their paths to success are of great significance in providing experience for the development of young faculty and university teachers' education and training.In this study the researcher selected two faculty awarding the Excellent Teacher in University Teaching to conduct case study and explored their professional development process,in order to provide reference and inspiration for young faculty and the universities.The research consists of five parts: in the introduction,it introduces the reasons for selecting the topic,the significance of the research,the literature review,the research designing and methods,and the definition of the main concepts.The literature review part introduces the progress of relevant researches both at domestic and abroad,giving a brief comments on them.The content of the second part is about the theoretical basis of the faculty professional development,including the Teachers Professional Development Theory,the Theory of Multiple Intelligence,the Adult Learning Theory and the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning.The third part is the case study of the professional development of faculty,which introduces the professional development process of two professors awarding National Outstanding Faculty in teaching,narrating their professional quality and competence development from several aspects such as the formation of their educational and teaching concepts,the construction of their teaching knowledge,the improvement of their teaching competence and the establishment of professional spirits,analyzing their development routes as well as the significant impact factors.Finally,comparing the two teachers' professional development to analyze their common characteristics and different aspects.The fourth part is conclusion and discussion.Through the above narrative and analysis of the professional development of the two teachers' combining with relative theory,this study draws the following conclusions that the excellent faculty professional development is a long-term process,with different periods and obviously individual characteristics.Moreover,in analysis of the factors affecting the professional development ofexcellent faculty,it turns out that the internal and external factors work together to influence the professional development of faculty,with the conclusion that to be an outstanding teacher is the result of teachers' continuous learning and hard working,of which the effects of teachers' personality cannot be ignored.The main driving force of faculty professional development is teachers' themselves initiative and independent development,nevertheless,the supporting from the external environment is essential.Lifelong learning,reflection and research,peer communication,and persistence are proposed to promote professional development of faculty.In the fifth part,there are some enlightenments and suggestions given to young faculty development from three levels which are to young faculty individuals,to universities and to our country.It is suggested that young faculty establish professional spirits,persist life-long learning,strengthen cooperation with colleagues,attach importance to both teaching and research and improve teachers' morality to achieve self-active development.To universities,they should concentrate on the construction of theoretical systems,the development of organization and the construction of environment which is conducive to the development of young faculty.To our country,it should provide policy guidance and institutional guarantee for the development of young faculty.
