Ethanol is a common organic matter in life and the first hydrocarbon derivative that Senior One students will learn. The knowledge of ethanol includes material states, reaction phenomena, chemical bonds, and molecular structures. How do you learn this kind of organic matter? In chemistry teaching, multiple representations of chemical thinking are often used to guide students to understand ethanol and understand relevant knowledge from different angles such as macro, micro and symbol. It is difficult to reason about the molecular structure of ethanol and the type of hydrogen atom.Learning it requires constant scientific inquiry. In the process of inquiry learning, using the ideas of the model-based inquiry to organize the teaching of ethanol can effectively improve the students' multiple representations of thinking. This study analyzes the knowledge of ethanol from the perspective of multiple characterizations.According to the elements and procedures of the model-based inquiry teaching, this paper proposes the idea of model-based inquiry teaching in the field of multi-representation.Taking ethanol as an example, the teaching practice research is carried out. This study first reviewed the research progress of multiple representations, and combed the related literatures of model-based inquiry teaching and ethanol teaching research, which laid a theoretical foundation for this research;Based on the characteristics of multiple representations and the elements of the model-based inquiry, the design of the model-based inquiry teaching in the multi-representation field of view is determined;Taking 600 students from a general middle school in Shandong Province as the research object, based on the analysis of the students' academic situation, the pre-test questionnaire for ethanol was compiled and measured, and the results were analyzed to provide suggestions for teaching design;Analyze the content of ethanol teaching materials from the perspective of multiple representations, explore the teaching design ideas based on the model-based inquiry in the field of multiple representations, develop the teaching design case of ethanol and conduct teaching practice for the above 600 students;Prepare a post-test questionnaire for ethanol, investigate and study the effect of the teaching implementation, collect and organize the survey data, and use SPSS25.0 software for statistics and processing. The research shows that:(1)Carrying out the model-based inquiry teaching in the field of multiple representations can promote students' learning of ethanol knowledge.(2)The multi-characteristic thinking mode is teachable, and the students' multiple representational abilities contribute to the characterization of ethanol knowledge. The innovations of this research are as follows: First, the pre-test and post-testquestionnaires on ethanol knowledge have been compiled, which provides a new tool for future research on ethanol teaching.Secondly, the paper proposes the model-based inquiry teaching design idea in the field of multiple representations, which provides a new method and reference for the future research of teaching design.
