In the adolescent period, the individual psychological and physiological changes have taken place, began to pay more attention to their own body shape, more prone to body dissatisfaction and eating disorders.A large number of studies at home and abroad also show that teenagers'dissatisfaction with their bodies is widespread. The sociocultural theory of body dissatisfaction holds that idealized internalization and body image comparison are the key predictors of body dissatisfaction.Media, parents, and peers around them all have an impact on the body dissatisfaction of individuals, among which media is the most common and influential. With the development of new communication technologies such as social media sites, popular social networking sites such as We Chat and QQ are changing the way people communicate and interact with each other, affecting network users to manage their identity and relationships with others.According to statistics, the penetration rate of Chinese social networking sites for teenagers aged between 11 and 29 has reached over 80%.More and more social networking sites have become online tools and platforms for teenagers to obtain information, display themselves, and communicate and interact with others.Previous studies have shown that the use of social networking sites has a negative impact on teenagers' body image satisfaction, while the use time of social networking sites has nothing to do with individuals' body image dissatisfaction. However, previous studies did not distinguish the use of social networking sites, and there are great differences in the impact of active and passive use of social networking sites on individuals.Proactive use can enhance users'social contact, enhance individual's social ability and sense of self-worth,and enable people to benefit from interaction with others and obtain social support.Passive use,on the other hand, has negative effects on individuals. Therefore, this study speculated that passive social network use would have a negative impact on individual physical dissatisfaction. In addition, the sociocultural theory of body dissatisfaction points out that ideal thinness internalization and body image comparison are the main predictors of body dissatisfaction, and individuals will unconsciously compare with others in the use of social networking sites.Based on this, this study also investigated the mediating effect of body image comparison between passive social network use and adolescent physical dissatisfaction. In addition,self-esteem,as a protective factor,is not only an individual's attitude and evaluation of himself, but also a person's degree of liking himself, which can buffer the impact of stressful life events and alleviate the negative impact of negative emotions on individual psychology after social comparison. Therefore, this study further explores the moderating effect of self-esteem.T To sum up,in this study,1148 questionnaires were collected from a middle school in xi'an by questionnaire method. After screening the questionnaires,1039 valid questionnaires were obtained, with an effective rate of 90.51%.SPSS22.0 and its macro program PROCESS were used to analyze the data,The following results are obtained:(1)the physical dissatisfaction of junior middle school students is different in demographic variables;(2)there was a significant positive correlation between the use of passive social networking sites and the body image comparison and physical dissatisfaction of junior high school students.(3)comparison of body image on social networking sites can significantly positively predict the physical dissatisfaction of junior high school students;(4)body image comparison of social networking sites plays a completely mediating role in the passive social networking sites' relationship with the physical dissatisfaction of junior high school students;(5)self-esteem can regulate the effect of social networking site body image comparison on body dissatisfaction.Conclusion:(1)the physical dissatisfaction of junior middle school women was significantly higher than that of males, and that of junior middle school students was significantly higher than that of junior middle school students.(2)the stronger the use intensity of passive social networking sites, the higher the tendency of social networking sites for junior high school students and the higher the degree of physical dissatisfaction.(3)after the comparison of body image of social networking sites, there is no significant relationship between the use of passive social networking sites and the physical dissatisfaction of junior high school students, and the comparison of body image of social networking sites plays a completely mediating role.(4)in individuals with low self-esteem,social networking site body image can positively predict body dissatisfaction, while in individuals with high self-esteem,body image comparison has a smaller impact on body dissatisfaction.
