STS(Science,Technology,Society)education is an important way to improve students' core literacy.It emphasizes the connection between science,technology and society in science education,and pays attention to the fusion of subjects.In the process of learning,students can use their knowledge to solve practical problems and cultivate their ability to solve problems and decision-making,which is beneficial to students' life-long development while mastering knowledge.From the point of view of STS education,this paper chooses Chinese physics teaching material(published in 2010)and American physics teaching material Physics: principles and problems(2008 Chinese version)in senior high school.By means of literature research,comparative analysis and quantitative analysis,this paper makes a comparison of the content structure,column setting and specific educational contents of teaching materials.In terms of content structure,Chinese textbook is divided into more chapters than American textbook.The content of STS education in Chinese and American textbooks is mainly based on the theme of production and life.The proportion of scientific progress theme and production and life theme education content in Chinese textbook is higher than that of similar content in American textbook,the proportion of educational content of technology application theme and social development theme is smaller than that of similar content in American textbook.The contents of STS education are widely selected in Chinese and American textbooks.Chinese textbook pays attention to the cultivation of humanistic quality and patriotism and the foundation of physics,while the contents of American textbook are more comprehensive and cross-disciplinary.In the column setting,Chinese and American high school physics teaching materials have their own characteristics.In terms of column type,the textbook published by People's Education Press is different from the American textbook.Two kinds of teaching material columns reflect the idea of STS education to varying degrees.The contents of STS education in the teaching materials of the two countries are widely selected.In the explicit column,Chinese textbook attaches importance to the expansion of scientific knowledge and the application of science and technology,while the American textbook pays attention to the frontiers of physics and the actual lives of students.In the recessive column,the experimental column of Chinese teaching material attaches importance to the application of science and technology,and the experimental column of American teaching material comes from life,and the subject of experiment starts from the practical problems in life.The practice columns of Chinese and American textbooks all focus on production and life.The Chinese textbook exercises have the use of poetry as the problem situation and have certain Chinese characteristics.And American textbook exercises have higher requirements for developing students' thinking ability.In the concrete educational content,the comparison is made from three aspects: content design,illustration design and exercise design.The American teaching material is more innovative in the introduction of subject,compilation of the textbook content,and has richer illustrations;It has a large number of STS exercises,and attaches importance to physical thinking training.Through the comparative study of the textbooks between China and the United States,the author hopes to be helpful to the improvement and perfection of the high school physics teaching materials in China,and hopes to provide a reference for teachers to carry out STS education effectively.
