The faculty development center is a specialized institution established to promote the development of teachers in colleges and universities.Since the establishment of the first university faculty development center in 1962 in the United States,after more than half a century of development,not only the number is increasing,but also the service field is expanding,the operation mechanism is becoming more and more reasonable,the service population is becoming more and more extensive,and the implementation methods and methods of project activities are also maturing and improving,which has played a huge role in promoting the development of university teachers.China's faculty development center started to be established in 2011 under the guidance of relevant policies,but due to the short time of establishment and development and lack of experience,it did not really play a role in promoting the development of university teachers.Therefore,it is of practical significance to actively explore,learn and learn from the development experience of the faculty development center in American universities for promoting the construction and deepening reform of the teacher development center in China.The paper is divided into six parts.The introduction part includes the reason for the topic,the significance of the research,the definition of the concept,the literature review at home and abroad,as well as the research methods and research ideas.In this paper,case study,comparative study and literature review are used.In the part of literature review,the author makes a comprehensive review on the research of foreign university faculty development center and American University faculty development center by Chinese scholars.The first part and the second part of the thesis respectively summarize the construction and development process,organization mode and implementation mode of the faculty development center in American universities.The third part takes Cornell University(Center for Teaching Innovation,CTI),Carnegie Mellon University(Eberly Center:Teaching Excellence & Educational Innovation)and Indiana University(Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning,CITL)as examples to explore the construction concept,personnel setting,service objects,project activities and service resources of the three centers The characteristics of the three centers are summarized.The fourth part is a comparative analysis of the common characteristics and differences of the three selected faculty development centers.It finds that there are both common and unique aspects between them,but the common is more than the difference.The three centers are all built on the basis of the University,with the purpose of serving the teachers and students of the University as the main purpose,to meet the needs of the development of teachers in the University,carry out targeted research,consultation and teaching technology support and otherproject activities,and strive to provide comprehensive and personalized services for promoting the development of teachers.Finally,the paper aims at the problems of the development concept lagging behind,imperfect operation mechanism,imperfect personnel matching,low participation of teachers,single source of funds,and untimely maintenance and update of the center website.According to the actual situation of our country,we should fully absorb and draw lessons from the experience of American universities,and put forward the suggestions and suggestions on the reform and improvement of the construction of the faculty development center in our country from the aspects of updating the development concept,optimizing the organization,enriching and innovating the project activities,improving the security system and attaching importance to the construction of the center website.
