| Chinese language has the beauty of melody.Compared with English,Chinese is characterized by tones.In recent years,Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages(TCSOL)has been developing vigorously.With the constant updating of educational concepts,teaching methods and teaching materials,the applications of Chinese songs’teaching in TCSOL has attracted the eyes of more and more experts and scholars in order to respond to students’increasingly diversified learning motivations and goals,adapt to students’different learning attitudes and abilities,and keep up with the development trend of multimedia technologies.Relevant studies show that,at present,in the research on the auxiliary effects of Chinese songs’teaching on TCSOL,the research objects are mostly Chinese learners from Japan,South Korea,southeast Asia and other countries and regions.However,there are few native or first language speakers of English.The Chinese songs’teaching is one of the highlights and emphases of Confucius Institute at the University of Hull(CIUH).Marina Mozzon-Mcpherson,dean of foreign studies,is a professor in the music department of the University of Hull(UoH).CIUH has held three consecutive Chinese WhispersTMConcerts.The concert of which all performers are students of the Chinese songs courses of CIUH aims to show the teaching achievements.The.The concerts have become a UK registered brand and has been widely acclaimed by Consulate-General of the People’s Republic of China Manchester,Humberside residents and the UoH.The success of the Chinese songs courses in CIUH reflects the supporting role of Chinese songs’teaching in TCSOL to a certain extent.In order to further study applications of Chinese songs’teaching in the Chinese courses of primary and secondary schools in the UK,this study selects Chinese songs courses of CIUH as the research samples.From theoretical basis,feasibility analysis,linguistics,pedagogy,psychology and music related theory,and the Chinese songs’courses teaching practice,this study analyzes and sums up the principles of selecting and writing Chinese songs.And it also summarizes the superiority and boundedness of the applications and puts forward some suggestions to provide references for more international Chinese teachers facing the same problems. |
