Reading is an important way for individuals to obtain information and plays an indispensable role in their life and work. With the progress of the times and the development of the internet, electronic reading has begun to enter the public's vision, and the traditional paper reading has gradually been replaced by it.This research is carried out in such a social context. The purpose of this study is to explore how to effectively read different types of texts in the context of the information age and to provide constructive Suggestions and empirical evidence for college students' study and life.Experiment using 2(text types: text, science text)x 2(present media: print media, computer media)x 2(read:intensive reading, extensive reading),the three factors of mixed experimental design, from the selection of a university in Nanjing to 158 college students as the subjects, explore the text type, medium and reading for reading effect and the influence of cognitive load. The results are as follows:(1)The main effect of text type is significant; The main effect of presenting media is not significant; The main effect of reading style is significant. The reading performance of professional texts was significantly higher than that of popular science texts, and the cognitive load was significantly higher than that of popular science texts. There was no significant difference between the reading performance of paper media and that of computer media, and its cognitive load was significantly lower than that of computer media. The results of intensive reading were significantly higher than that of extensive reading, and there was no significant difference in cognitive load.(2)Text types have a significant interaction with the presentation media. For professional texts, the reading performance of paper media is significantly higher than that of computer media, and there is no significant difference in cognitive load. For popular science texts, there is no significant difference between the reading performance of paper media and that of computer media, and the cognitive load is significantly lower than that of computer media.(3)The interaction between the media and the way of reading is significant.Under the condition of intensive reading, the reading performance of paper media was significantly higher than that of computer media, and there was no significant difference in cognitive load.Under the condition of extensive reading, the reading performance of paper media was significantly lower than that of computer media, and there was no significant difference in cognitive load.(4)The interaction between reading mode and text type is not significant; The interaction between text type, presentation medium and reading mode is notsignificant. The research conclusions are as follows:(1)When intensive reading of academic texts such as major is more difficult, the presentation of paper is better,at which time individuals can obtain higher reading scores and produce lower cognitive load.(2)In the case of non-academic texts, which are less difficult to read in general science, the computer is a better presentation than the paper.
