This article starts from Lukács' reification critique theory,takes historical materialism as the foundation,analyzes the spreading phenomenon and the root causes of materialization in the ideological and political education of college students;combines Lukács' reification critique theory's unique analysis perspective,the development requirements of our society,the essential requirements for the development of ideological and political education for college students and the requirements for the free and comprehensive development of human beings,to explore the inevitability and urgency of abandoning materialization according to the actual productivity conditions and social development level.The fundamental elimination of materialization may require long-term material production social practice.This article attempts to combine the fundamental principles of historical materialism and the approach of totality to explore the various possible paths for the ideological and political education of college students to develop the usefulness and discard the uselessness of reification in the context of the new era.The overall goal of developing the usefulness and discarding the uselessness of reification should be constantly strived forward.The measures to develop the usefulness and discard the uselessness of reification tendency in the ideological and political education of college students are the following.First of all,we should adhere to the approach of totality.The ideological and political education of college students is an organic whole which is composed of various aspects including the subject of education,educational methods,and educational environment.Reification is a specific problem.Based on the national conditions of our countries and the actual circumstance of the ideological and political education of college students,we should explore the path of “developing the useful and discarding the useless” from the reality and historical process so as to solve practical problems.Secondly,we should ensure that “to foster virtue through education” should be set as the core link of the ideological and political education of college students,around which we should define the dominant role of people and the value-leading role of education,call for the unity of instrumental value and purposeful value,as well as the unity of personal value and social value.We should be people-oriented and take practice as the realization path.Moreover,the totality goal should be implemented in specific aspects and all people should develop the usefulness and discard the uselessness of reification in education in the entire process and in an all-round way.The orientation and frontier of the discipline of ideological and political education should be defined to avoid excessive permeation of the rationalism research method into the construction of this discipline.The “community of shared responsibility” among society,colleges and universities and teachers should be constructed to form a joint force for education.Besides,we should constantly enrich the content of the ideological and political education of college students and improve educational methods and evaluation mechanism.The worries about reification may make it difficult for people to breathe under the pressure of reality,but it is precisely this that makes the road to future full of more open possibilities.
