The Reseach Of Hankou Bankers' Association(1920-1938)

Since the 1990s,with the further development of the academic research of history of Chinese chambers of commerce,the research of Association has been attended by the scholars and presented a boom.As one of the most important trade associations,the achievements of the research of banker's association were remarkable.However,by analyzing the academic achievements,it was easy to find that the inspections were relatively concentrated on the Shanghai.Scholars always discussed the relationship between the organization and Shanghai's economic and social development with the all-round and Multiple angle,while only pay little attention to Hankou and other city banker' association.In different regions,the states of trade organizations are different,not to say,the local characteristics of organizational structure and industry attributes are also more obvious.Taking the Hankou Bankers' Association(1920—1938)as the research object,this paper has discussed the setting-up,the organizational structure and operating mechanism of the Hankou Bankers' Association,the interactive relationship among Hankou Bankers' Association,Hankou chamber of Commerce and Hankou Native Bankers' Association,and how the Hankou Bankers' Association influenced the development of modern banking industry and the local society.The paper tries to show how Hankou Bankers' Association used the platform of industry organizations to safeguard their own interests,and to promote the development of financial industry in such a complex financial environment,then reveal the deep influence in the organization structure,function,development of Hankou Bankers'Association by modern Hankou local political,economic,financial environment.The final result is to reveal the complex interactive relationship between modern Hankou local environment and the Generation and development of Hankou Bankers' system of operation.This paper thinks that the rise of Hankou Bankers' Association was dependent on the development of modern financial market and Government forces.With the growing of Hankou's bank,how to find a kind of bank service platform which can protect the interests of the bank has became a Urgent things at the time.In order t o control the industrial market,the government actively promoted the combination by legal means.After the birth of Hankou Bankers'Association,its leadership system and the operational mechanism developped twists and turns under the special stru cture of total branch system and the realistic surroundings.From the trust to rejecti on and returning to cooperation,the relationship of Hankou Bankers' Association an d Hankou chambers of commerce has been changing and was not affected by the law of chambers of commerce in the mid 30's.Hankou Bankers' Association andHankou Native Bankers' Association was under the competition and cooperation e ach other.With the change of their power,Hankou Bankers' Association gradually o ccupied a dominant position in the market.The development of Hankou Bankers' A ssociation was not only based on the improvement of the self development mecha nism,but only on the networks-tructure in Inside and outside.Then Hankou Banke rs'Association established the "bank" magazine,ran a Night school,participated in the activities of the national financial industry.As a result,they introduced the theor etical knowledge of bank,cultivated the Specialized personnel,broadened their hori zon and Promoted the development of the modern banking industry.At the same ti me,Hankou Bankers' Association also played an active role in the local society,such as Driving out bad money,supporting the currency reform,regulating the local fina ncial order,Buyying government bonds,investing municipal construction and partici pating in social relief,which promoted to the local development.
