A Study On The Development Of The Science Society Of China(1914-1949)

The Science Society of China is the first academic science community and the first folk science community in Chinese modern history.Its development process throughout the whole period of the Republic of China until the initial stage of the People’s Republic of China.As the guide to the the Chinese modern scientific culture,it promotes the spread of western scientific rational spirit in China.The Science Society of China is also growing up during the process of localization of western science.The development of the Science Society of China has gone through three major stages of arduous pioneering,prosperous development and gradual decline.Since the Science Society of China moved back to China from the United States,the pace of development gradually accelerated.It gradually developed some relevant management regulations,increased the efforts to absorb young talent,and actively promote the scientific and rational spirit.It had formulated a more perfect organizational structure.At the same time,the Science Society of China was also actively engaged in the construction of Chinese modern science and technology.It began to localize the western science to adapt to the real needs of Chinese society by its own strong intellectual background.With the outbreak of Anti-Japan War,the development road to the Science Society of China was forced to interrupted,it began to decline.The emergence of the Science Society of China had triggered the trend of scientific doctrine in China,under the influence of the Science Society of China and the magazine Science,the broad masses of intellectuals had set off two great scientific and cultural movements-the New Culture Movement and the Debate of Science and Metaphysics.The members of the Science Society of China even were directly involved in and led these two movements,which promoted the prosperity of Chinese modern scientific culture.After the two movements,the scientific and rational spirit was deeply rooted among the Chinese for the first time.The Science Society of China actually was the milestone for the development of Chinese modern science,it not only spread western scientific and rational spirit,but also formed China’s first scientific community and started the research on science of science in early China.
