| The Chinese Science Society (1914-1949) was the most famous academic society in modern times. The history of it is the longest in all of academic societies in modern times. The main members of it are the overseas students of boxer indemnity in America. Following the aim of disseminating science and developing Chinese science, they desired a series of persistent popular science activities which were open to people. Their great efforts made considerable progress for Chinese science and exercised a great influence in popular science history.The object of the research is the idea and activities of popular science of the Chinese science society in modern times. At the base of collecting and analyzing much original information, I made a systematic study of that object.Except the introduction and peroration, my paper has anther two parts.The study of the idea of popular science of the Chinese science society is in the first part. Form the scientist community of the society, the part analyzed their comprehension about science and the target, the main disseminative subject, the disseminative content, the disseminative ways and the receptor of popular science.The activities which the society started were systematically summarized in the second part. These activities were various and the content of it was rich. Especially, the impact was tremendous. These activities made yeoman services in Chinese popular science in modern times. |
