At the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China 5 President Xi Jinping said that "As socialism with Chinese characteristics has entered a new era,the principal contradiction facing Chinese society has evolved. What we now face is the contradiction between unbalanced and inadequate development and the people's ever-growing needs for a better life." in October 2017.Chia's social economy level has significantly increased, good happiness has become an urgent need for people's lives. The happiness index has become a new indicator for evaluating social development and progress. As a key component of China's social security system, social insurance can maintain social stability, safeguard labor force reproduction, realize income redistribution and promote social fairness. It provides basic social security for every social citizen. There is no doubt that a sound social insurance system is of great significance to improving the subjective well-being of our residents. In recent years,China has continuously improved the social insurance system. In 2014,the basic old-age insurance system for urban and rural residents was promoted. In 2016,the basic medical insurance system for urban and rural residents was officially launched. These major reform measures are intended to reduce the gap between urban and rural areas, benefiting even more. The purpose of these measures is to allow social insurance to further exert its role in enhancing the well-being of residents. However, due to the influence of objective factors and restricted by its own development, there are still many deficiencies in China's social insurance system, such as the incomplete laws and regulations, the low degree of protection, and the large urban-rural gap in treatment, which make it not fully utilized. And it didn't raise the happiness of residents as expected. Therefore,to study the impact of social insurance on the subjective well-being of Chinese residents has important practical significance for further improving our country's social insurance system and realizing the residents' good life.It also has important practical significance for alleviating the major social conflicts in our country at the moment.Based on the theoretical analysis, this paper firstly concludes that social insurance has the function of improving the subjective well-being of residents from many aspects;secondly,it introduces the subjective well-being and social insurance status and characteristics of Chinese residents;again, the Ordered Probit model examines the effect of social insurance on the subjective well-being of residents from the perspective of overall residents,urban-rural differences and age differences. Finally,it proposes useful policy recommendations for the construction of China's social insurance system. The main conclusions of this paper through empirical analysis are:First,in terms of the overall situation, urban employees' medical insurance, new rural cooperative medical insurance, and unemployment insurance have not significantly improved residents' well-being.Urban employees' pension insurance can bring about a significant positive impact on the well-being of residents. The relationship between the level of expenditure of social insurance funds and the well-being of residents is inverse U-shaped.Second,the subsampled results show that urban residents' pension insurance can significantly enhance the happiness of rural residents without significant impact on urban residents.Within a certain range, basic medical insurance can significantly improve the well-being of residents under the age of 60.Basic old-age insurance has a positive effect on the happiness of residents of all age groups. The possible innovation of this paper is that from the perspective of the research object, this paper takes the welfare of social insurance as the starting point of the study, and examines the impact mechanism and effect of social insurance on the subjective well-being of Chinese residents. It has a certain positive significance.
