Under the background of rapid economic development and significant technological advancement, innovation capability has become the backbone of the company's sustainable development.Knowledge is the only factor that does not follow the rule of diminishing returns of production factors, and thus gradually becomes the driving force for corporate innovation.Because knowledge has the characteristics of the circle structure and company has difference in ability of absorbing knowledge,The knowledge absorbed by enterprises of different scales lies in different geographical circles. It determines that companies need to absorb knowledge spillovers at different geographic levels, and the efficiency of absorb knowledge spillovers is also a determinant factor of corporate innovation.By referring to Griliches-Jaffe's knowledge production function, the micro-data of listed companies from 2011 to 2015 were matched with macro-industry data of each region, and an empirical model of knowledge spillovers was constructed to analyze the mechanism of heterogeneous companies absorbing knowledge spillovers. It also focuses on firm size and the optical spatial scale of absorbing knowledge spillovers, and draws the following main conclusions:First of all,Because knowledge has the characteristics of externality and the circle structure, heterogeneous firms have the different demand for knowledge spillovers and the different ability to absorbing knowledge,So different companies choose to absorb knowledge spillovers within different spatial scale.Second, through the regression analysis of the total sample and subsample, the scale of the firm has a significant impact on the choice of spatial scale for the company to absorb knowledge spillovers.Large enterprises can absorb knowledge spillovers at the municipal level and also have the ability to absorb knowledge spillovers at higher geography level.Compared to largescale enterprises,Small and medium-sized enterprises have certain disadvantages because of their R&D investment, and therefore they need to acquire knowledge from the outside, and then covert external knowledge into the company's own innovation input. Therefore small and medium-sized enterprises should be more selective to accept knowledge spillovers locally. From the perspective of rational economic man,if it is to choose other geospatial scopes, the effect may not be significant.Third, belonging to the manufacturing industry listed companies classify the manufacturing industry in detail, and geographical space is divided into cross-provincial and provincial levels. In general, the empirical results confirm the two hypotheses in this paper.Compared with R&D investment, the effect of absorbing knowledge spillover is more obvious.Small and medium-sized enterprises should focus on choosing to absorb knowledge spillovers locally. In summary,it proves that firm size has a significant impact on the optical spatial scale of absorbing knowledge spillovers.According to the research results of this paper, the following policy recommendations are targeted:(1)According to the knowledge that enterprises themselves need to absorb, absorbing knowledge spillover at different spatial scale will provide necessary direction guidance for the company's innovation policy;(2)In order to increase the efficiency of absorbing knowledge spillovers and expand the spatial scale for undertaking knowledge spillovers, enterprises should accumulate their own knowledge reserves, internalize external knowledge and increase investment in corporate R&D activities,so they can obtain more effective innovation output.(3)It guide that municipal level governments and provincial-level governments formulate support for heterogeneous enterprise R&D activities, and establish appropriate knowledge exchange platforms, and quantify key indicators for corporate innovation,Therefore companies can make better knowledge communication and increase the efficiency of absorbing knowledge spillovers.
