An Empirical Study Of The Effect To Industrial Development And Knowledge Spillover

Knowledge spillover is the core content of the new economic growth theory. The knowledge spillovers inter-industry and among industries and regions can promote innovation capability, which can the raise the technological level of industries and promote economic development. It was recognized by the academics.The knowledge spillover is belong to pure economics theoretical, whose development is not long and still in the initial stage. At present the international academic is not consistent view about the knowledge spillover beginning, and ultimately promoting industrial development. Given the large number of literature, the characteristics of the knowledge spillovers, mechanism, the method of measurement are very inadequacy. Obviously in the effect of knowledge spillover on the economic growth. Empirical studies are mostly concentrated in the developed countries, not in the developing countries, on the basis of previous studies, this paper summed up theoretical knowledge spillover and eight kinds of effects of knowledge spillover, then used quantitative and qualitative methods to reveal the effect knowledge spillover on the industrial development, Making knowledge spillover into MAR knowledge spillover and Jacobs knowledge spillover, Porter knowledge spillovers. This paper use panel datas of 30 provinces and municipalities,20 industry in Chinese from 1999 to 2005. The econometric analysis shows that clear evidence on the presence of MAR and Jacobs knowledge spillover can neither be found in the three regions, namely, eastern region, central region and western region, nor across the country; however, clear Porter knowledge spillover does exist in the eastern region and all over the country. Moreover, we also find that exogenous technology spillover has positive influence on the regional industry development and that geographic factors play an important role in the development of industry.
