Foreign banks entered China as early as the end of the Qing dynasty.Under China’s WTO accession commitments,foreign banks were allowed to provide local currency services to all Chinese residents and enjoy national treatment since 2006.The comprehensive opening-up of the banking industry was once considered by many people in the industry as"the wolf has come".However,the development of foreign banks has not brought as great impact on the development of Chinese banks as originally expected.Therefore,the study on the development process of the retail business of foreign banks in China is of great significance to the future development of the retail business of foreign banks,as well as to the strategic planning and development of the retail business of Chinese banks.From foreign banks in China retail business development perspective,based on the strategic management theory,an S bank retail business management situation in China as a case to conduct a comprehensive analysis,mainly based on the theory of competitive strategy,using PEST,The Five-force Model,External Factor Evaluation Matrix,Internal Factor Evaluation Matrix and SWOT analysis tools,the method of investigation and data analysis,and a comprehensive summary of S bank retail business advantages and disadvantages,to identify opportunities and potential threats,then put forward the development strategy goal and formulate corresponding measures.Due to the slowdown or even shrinkage of the retail business of foreign banks in China,there have been little researches on the development strategy of retail business of foreign banks in China in recent years.Based on a comprehensive and in-depth study of retail business of S bank,this article systematically sorted out its internal and external environment,proposed a new development strategy under the background of continuous innovation of financial supervision and rapid development of FinTech,and sought for new breakthroughs by relevant strategic paths,important measures and implementing guarantee of strategy.
