As of 2015,Xiamen Port ranked 8th in China's ports with a container throughput of 9.1828 million TEU.At present,there are several railways linking with coastal and inland areas,cooperating with a number of land ports,so Xiamen Port has a great potential for the development of rail-sea intermodal transportation.However,the volume of its'rail-sea intermodal transportation was only 18,300 TEU,accounting for 0.2%of the total container throughput.On one hand,it is due to the fierce competition for the supply of goods of economic hinterland by the neighboring ports.On the other hand,the ports failed to make full use of the existing advantages for reasonably allocating the resources of rail-sea intermodal tra'nsportation considering different hinterlands.As an indispensable means of multimodal transport in international trade,rail-sea intermodal transportation has the axial diffusion effect,which can fully develop the depth of harbor hinterland.In order to ensure the sustainable and healthy development of Xiamen Port,the "13th five-year plan for Xiamen green port construction" in 2015 proposed the requirement for further development of rail-sea intermodal transportation:try to improve the railway branch line and dredging port's network layout in port district,establish the integrated information services and customs clearance system of "land transport-seaborne-port" of Xiamen Port and finally achieve the transformation and upgrading of collecting and dispatching system by the end of 2020.Under this background,taking the optimal benefit of international sea-rail transportation as a target,it has become an urgent problem to be solved for these ports to make a reasonable division for the economic hinterland of the port,formulate the development strategy according to the local conditions,and finally enhance the throughput of the rail-sea intermodal transportation for Xiamen Port.In the future,it will provide guidance for Xiamen Port to develop the depth of hinterland.This study focuses on the division of the economic hinterland of Xiamen Port,which is based on the efficiency of sea-rail Transportation.It subdivides the economic hinterland of Xiamen Port by constructing Kohonen neural network model and divides the hinterland into four categories,which are defined as class A,class B,class C and class D,and then proposes the development strategy considering different types of hinterland for managers' reference.Specifically,the paper first expounds the connotation of container sea-rail intermodal transportation,the interaction between port and hinterland development,the influence theory of division for hinterland,aiming at establishing the theoretical foundation for the ensuing chapters.Secondly,this paper analyzes the current situation of the development of sea rail intermodal transportation in Xiamen Port and the necessity of dividing the economic hinterland.Lastly,this paper use the Kohonen neural network to construct the model of intermodal transport hinterland of Xiamen Port,selecting 35 economic hinterland including Fujian economic region on the west of the channel and the area along the Yuxia railway as input sample and taking the efficiency of sea-rail transportation as an important index of the economic hinterland classification.To make the results more reasonable,this paper also adds 8 secondary indicators as input variables,so that this 35 economic hinterland can be divided in a more scientific and comprehensive way,and then gain the practical conclusion on different levels of economic hinterland type.In response to the requirements of the "13th five-year plan" of Xiamen Port,this paper reasonably divided the economic hinterland of sea-rail intermodal transportation to achieve the rational allocation of port resources.Not only can it make a theoretical contribution to the increase of the throughput of sea-rail intermodal transportation of Xiamen Port,but also it will provide reference for the development of the economic hinterland of sea-rail transport for other ports.
