Spatial agglomeration and economic growth have become the subject of space economics research in recent years.Especially, the reserach of knowledge spillover has become the focus of agglomeration economic research due to economic agglomeration. The provincial capital is the carrier of spatial agglomeration of a province and also the vanguard of leading innovation. The economic proportion of provincial capital cities is too small to play the role of provincial capital gathering, leading the rapid improvement of the province's innovation capacity;the provincial economy's economic proportion is too high, too much absorption of the province's economic resources, resulting in a gap between urban development, affecting the level of knowledge transfer and diffusion, how to balance the development strategy of provincial capitals and non-provincial cities to promote the rapid improvement of the province's innovation capacity has become one of the most important development strategies of the region.Since the 12th Five-Year Plan, the strong provincial capital strategy seems to be the main theme of the province's economic development strategy, such as Guizhou,Henan,Anhui,Jiangsu,Shandong and other provinces.Because the provincial capital innovation ability plays a pivotal role in the province, this paper is based on China.Panel data of provinces from 2004 to 2015,trying to analyze the impact of economic agglomeration of provincial capitals on the innovation capacity of a province. This paper first calculates the proportion of provincial capital cities in the province's economy, and defines it as the economic agglomeration of provincial capitals. This also measures the strength of the provincial capital of a province.Using it as an independent variable, the province's innovation index as a dependent variable. The country is divided into high middle and low innovation areas, and the status quo is described. From the macro perspective,it can be seen that the economic concentration of provincial capital cities in the medium-high innovation areas is small and the provincial capital is generally weak. The provincial capital cities in the low-innovation areas are generally stronger.Furthermore,by constructing the Jefferson knowledge production function to construct the measurement model of provincial innovation ability and provincial economic agglomeration degree, the fixed effect model and IV tool variable estimation equation are used to obtain the relationship between the province's innovation ability and the economic city's first position in the provincial capital.Furthermore, the inverted U-shaped test method proposed by Lind,J.T and Mehlum,H is tested to obtain a consistent conclusion That is,there is a "threshold value" of the economic concentration of provincial capitals. On the left side of the"threshold value",as the economic agglomeration of provincial capitals increases, the province's innovation capacity increases,on the right side of the "threshold value",along with the concentration of provincial capitals.Further increase the province's ability to innovate. At the same time, the economic development level and the size of the resident population of each province will affect the threshold of the economic concentration of the provincial capital cities in each province. The lower the level of regional economic development, the higher the size of the resident population, the higher the threshold of economic concentration of the provincial capital, and thus the 2015 The threshold of the economic concentration of provincial capital cities in each province is based on the policy recommendations of the provincial capital development strategy.
