As the carrier of high-tech enterprises in China, the GEM has grown rapidly since its opening in 2009 and has become an important force driving China's economy. For the GEM,on the one hand, innovation is the root of its survival and development. How to convert its limited resources into its own innovation capabilities has always been a core issue for the GEM companies. On the other hand, corporate social responsibility is highly related to its sustainable development.Corporate social responsibility not only enhances the recognition of corporate image, but also helps to establish good social relations so as to obtain valuable information and resources. These resources are precisely the same Essential for innovation activities.Previous studies of social responsibility by scholars have shown that the impact of social responsibility on companies is not homogeneous, but depends on factors such as the external environment.Geographic location is the specific description of the environment.Geographical differences mean the differences in business environment, financing channels, human resources, and social capital. The interaction with corporate social responsibility directly affects the difference in innovation results. This shows that geographical location is a key lever influencing corporate social responsibility innovation. At present, there are few studies on the impact of social responsibility on innovation in China, but there are few studies on the integration of geographical perspectives.Based on the above analysis, this paper takes the GEM as a research object, introduces the geographical proximity, and explores the relationship between corporate social responsibility and innovation performance in order to enrich CSR research and also provide new ideas for GEM companies to improve their innovation performance. This article first reviews the literature on corporate social responsibility, geographic proximity, and innovation performance, clarifies the relationship between social responsibility and innovation performance, and analyzes the regulatory mechanism of geographical proximity between the two.Based on this,a research model was established,in which geographical proximity was used as a Moderator variable, corporate social responsibility was an independent variable, and innovation performance was the dependent variable, and related research hypotheses were proposed.Secondly, the corresponding indicators are designed for the variables in the model. The independent variables are the social responsibilities of various stakeholders, and the comprehensive score is obtained by factor analysis. The dependent variables are R&D input and new patent applications. The adjustment variable is the distance between the sample company and the nearest city center. On the basis of complete data collection,a regression analysis was conducted on the data of 176 GEM listed companies from 2014 to 2016.Finally,based on the empirical analysis results, the corresponding management suggestions are proposed. The conclusion of this study shows:(1)Corporate social responsibility performance has a significant impact on innovation performance.Corporate Social Responsibility(CSR)Positively Affects Innovation Performance R&D Input and Positive Impact on Number of Newly Applied Patent.(2)Geographical proximity negatively adjusts the relationship between corporate social responsibility and innovation performance R&D,that is,the smaller the distance between an enterprise and its neighboring central cities, the more significant the impact of corporate social responsibility on innovation performance R&D.However, the effect of geographic proximity on the relationship between corporate social responsibility and innovation performance Patent is not significant. That is to say,the distance between the enterprise and its neighboring central cities has no significant effect on the regulation of corporate social responsibility and innovation performance Patent.
