China is the world's largest pork consumer and pork producer, and the United States is one of the major importers of pork in China. As China's per capita disposable income increases, the demand for American quality pork from domestic consumers is increasing day by day.China has a large population and a large demand for pork,it is a net importer of pork. The United States regards China as one of its major export target markets and strives to increase pork exports to China. The Sino-US bilateral pork trade is not balanced, and China's pork exports to the United States are small. In 2016,China imported 0.65 million tons of pork from the United States, accounting for 1.24%of the domestic pork production, which was 27.76 times that of China's pork exports to the United States. There are obvious differences in the development of pork industry between China and the United States in terms of comparative advantage and factor endowment advantage, and should show strong complementarity in pork industry. However, for a long time, the pork trade between China and the United States has been unbalanced and the volume of trade has fluctuated widely, which does not show strong complementarity. In view of this, this article will study Sino-US pork industry from the perspective of complementarity and cooperation potential.First,we will sort out relevant researches about the complementarity of the pork industry in China and the United States and find the theoretical basis and mechanism of the complementarity of the pork industry in China and the United States.Secondly, using data to analyze the development history of the pork industry in China and the United States and the foreign trade situation, find the realistic basis for Sino-US pork industry trade.Through the analysis of the degree of complementarity of the pork industry in China and the United States using the Trade Combined Degree Index, the Revealed Comparative Advantage, the Trade Complementarity Index, and the Intra-Industry Trade Index,to find the complementary development trends and degrees. Then, using the model of trade gravitation, this paper makes an empirical analysis of the trade factors affecting the pork industry between China and the United States and China's major trading countries, and measures the trade potential of the pork industry between China and the United States and major trading countries. Finally, according to the results of the previous study, the policy recommendations for strengthening the Sino-U.S.pork industry cooperation were proposed. The results of the study show that China and the United States have high trade complementarity in the trade of fresh frozen pork and pig miscellaneous products, especially the United States export The China import model has the highest complementarity and the trade complementarity gradually increases. The deep study of the factors affecting Sino-U.S.pork industry trade and cooperation potential shows that the U.S.economy,the population of China and the United States, the exchange rate, the trade complementarity index and other factors all have a significant impact on Sino-U.S.pork trade. The pork trade potential between China and the United States and between China and major trading countrie is huge China can start from the domestic reality and improve the quality of pork products from multiple perspectives;learn from the US pork industry model, focus on contract production and integration;optimize the industrial structure, and create well-known brands of pork products,to strengthen trade complementarity between the China and US pork industry.
