This investigation started out as an attempt to study the development of international joint ventures between China and Colombia.Initial preliminary results pointed me towards three companies that would fit the criteria of International Joint Ventures, but as the investigation developed even further,it became clear that my exploratory research into the matter would in turn create more questions than answers,as I will point out in the section "avenues for future research".This brought me to rethink my research,as the companies were found to be not completely fitting into the International Joint Venture category,as defined by Yang and Grey,Mohedano Sudanes and others. This research is conducted in a cross-sectional and comparative case study with 2 IJVs formed between Chinese and Colombian partners. This methodology was chosen in order to provide a stepping stone for a future longitudinal study,as the phenomena of IJVs created between Colombian and Chinese partners is quite scarce, thus making this an exploratory effort. The unit of analysis is the International Joint Venture as adaptation processes kickstarted by interactions between staff members, groups and/or organizational subdivisions(units, departments, subsidiaries, etc.)"within or between firms" affect its development. Thus, after taking into consideration the sheer oddity of this phenomena,I decided to compare the figure of International Joint Ventures as defined by the academia with the figure within the Colombian legal system,as well as to shed light into other market entry strategies that are used in Colombia.Additionally,I inquire on the cultural effects of post-formation processes between Chinese and Colombian partners within the International Joint Venture context as well as within other entry strategies, especially the idea of "authorized distributor".Finally,I point out recommendations on the identified processes, based upon interview and archival data, alongside the previously mentioned avenues for future research.
